Some old hack that's been around forever. I thought the old bastard died since I hadn't seen anything from him in years. Can't take anything he says seriously.

I also thought he died ages ago. He's 87, and I actually thought he was older than that.

I thought the jokes about Tanev's NTC were to put extra emphasis on how bad the deal was.

....he actually has a NTC. What the actual F.

Its a modified NTC meaning there is 21 teams he can still go to. Still plenty of options

Edit: if the TV deal is as big as they say, and the cap increases to 100 mil, this deal could easily look good over its lifespan btw

I'm bored so here's a proposal:

Jack Johnson and Tristan Jarry to Florida for their 2020 3rd Round Pick

Pens then sign:

Teddy Blueger for 2 years between $750k and $850k
ZAR for 2 years between $1M and $1.2M
Marcus Pettersson for something ... not sure how to predict this one -- maybe $2.8M for 3 years?
Adam Johnson for 2 years at league minimum

If that trade happens - I'll argue against the Hall/Larsson crowd that it becomes the greatest trade of this decade.

Man, this team’s forward group is going to be UGLY if we move Bjugstad.

Why?

He's basically a poor man's 3C for us right now - and we have equal-to /better options as true wings. He ain't bad, but he's also not good. Going from a corpse (Brassard) to a living body at that 3C spot certainly made a huge difference - but I don't think we're in the same stratosphere as the 2016 Pens. Sid/Geno Bones/Cully were handily the greatest 1/2/3/4 C combo in the league. After Sid/Geno this year and last - nobody was arguing Bjugs/Cully/Blueger as anything special.....they're more 'serviceable'.

So...if we trade him and end up with a legitimate 3C before August, no harm done imo.

Not this season - it would have had to have been done before the buyout period ended. And seeing how it cost Toronto a 1st to get CAR to buyout Marleau who only was owed 830k (I actually think it was closer to 3.83m given his bonuses), what do you think it would cost us to have someone pay at least 6m or so to buy him out?

And given how many teams are interested in him, odds are he wouldn't come back here as a UFA on the cheap anyway. Overall just a very flawed idea.
I was talking about Gudbranson. Not sure if that was clear in my previous post.

New Jersey seems to make a lot of sense from a roster makeup and from a point of cap space perspective this season and for future seasons when it comes to Jack Johnson. And when it comes to a backup goalie/future goalie.

PIT: Jack Johnson, Tristan Jarry, ZAR, 2021 3rd Round Pick
NJ: Mirco Mueller

i don't think the Devils would take that. i'm also not sure how much cap room they have that they're willing to give to JJ

How exactly are we fitting in a legitimate 3C?

Also, once again we are going to spend a 1st to fill a role we could have not paid anything for if we didn’t sign Tanev. I guess not signing Bonino worked out well for us.

The opinions on the Tanev contract around here make a lot more sense when viewed through the prism you just alluded to.

I thought he looked good there, and a lot better than Bonino did for most of his non-HBK time. Although I guess that if we get another 3C instead of him, no big deal... but I'm not sure we can do that and trade away Johnson.

It's like JR had just read an article on how to screw up in free agency and wanted to check every box.

You don’t know that bjugs leaving means no replacement. IF they get someone cheap like Lewis is there really that much of a drop off?

You save like 2.5 mil in cap space too.

Tanev bujs Horny
Simon Tb rust

Tanev TB Horny
simon Lewis rust

Tbh I’d move bujs and JJ to Anaheim for a pick and carter rowney back.

That would free up a lot of cap. And let TB be third line center.

We already have another legit NHL center in Galchenyuk.:sarcasm:

Well atleast Galchenyuk thinks he is.
