I doubt it. A 22 year old Saad only brought back Anisimov and Dano, which would essentially be the equivalent of a Bjugstad and Poulin package. I don't really see a 27 year old Saad somehow bringing back more than that.

ah ah ah. but a 24 year old Sadd brought back Artemi Panarin.

he’s warming up to take over for Jarry

(insert joke about Murray being all we need to tank)

Too obvious. Wasn't Sebastian Caron just released from a WB/S PTO?

There's our answer, right there.

Murray and Jarry can both conveniently come down with an allergy to their goalie pads.

Kovy was the Kings best offensive weapon after Kopitar.

not exactly sure why people think he is a "bum"

he can still produce in the NHL.

Rather have Kovalchuk instead of Simon.

Probably because he got waived by a team that desperately needs what he’s supposed to bring. Only bums usually do that. The one guy who’s sort of rose out of bum status at his age after being waived is Recchi.

Armchair GMing:
1. Two top 6 wingers (palmieri for 1st + addison + conditional 2nd) (kreider for 2nd + POJ + conditional 2nd)
2. Use bjugstad and galchenyuk which are bad fits on our team to get picks to get players that are a better fit (a second round for each and we retain 50% on each to make it happen).
3. Upgrade on LHD (desmith for brendan dillon from sharks)

FORWARDS (14)
Right wing: Kyle Palmieri ($4,650,000) - Bryan Rust ($3,500,000) - Patric Hörnqvist ($5,300,000) - Brandon Tanev ($3,500,000)
Centre: Sidney Crosby ($8,700,000) - Evgeni Malkin ($9,500,000) - Jared McCann ($1,250,000) - Teddy Blueger ($750,000) - Sam Lafferty ($767,500)
Left wing: Dominik Kahun ($925,000) - Chris Kreider ($4,625,000) - Dominik Simon ($750,000) - Zach Aston-Reese ($1,000,000) - Joseph Blandisi ($700,000)

DEFENSE (8)
Right: Kris Letang ($7,250,000) - John Marino ($925,000) - Justin Schultz ($5,500,000) - Chad Ruhwedel ($700,000)
Left: Brian Dumoulin ($4,100,000) - Brenden Dillon ($3,270,000) - Marcus Pettersson ($874,125) - Jack Johnson ($3,250,000)

GOALTENDER (2)
Matt Murray ($3,750,000) - Tristan Jarry ($675,000)

DETAILS
Roster Size: 24
Salary Cap: $81,500,000
Bonus Overages: $132,500
Cap Hit: $76,344,125
Cap Space: $5,155,875 - we actually have 4 million less for retaining on Bjugstad and Galchenyuk.

We probably wont get either but since we are dreaming...

Maybe convince Shero he should retain 1M on Palms? and NYR 1M on Kreider?

Kreider-Crosby-Palmieri
Jake-Malkin-Rust (if Jake returns for the playoffs)

We can go all globetrotters on everyones asses!

Yeah, I'd max out at Bjugstad and a 1st and look elsewhere if they scoff at that. That may even be pushing it because of how good this draft supposedly is, but we hear that about every draft.

I don't even think that's an unreasonable offer, because Bjugstad is an alright piece and the 1st is really nice. Maybe you need to add a mediocre prospect, but I don't think that deal is much worse than what Brassard brought back in 2018.

Yeah, I think the 1st is a steep add. I’d take Saad and be fairly happy with him but I don’t think he’s a player that costs Bjugstad and a 1st in a good draft. Not in 2020.

Kovalchuk suuuuuuuuuuucks, and isn't worth the roster spot he'd take up.

I traded Bjugstad and Galchenyuk and put Guentzel on LTIR and then you can get both Palmieri and Kreider without anybody retaining.

Or a player who is seeing his team's going nowhere anytime soon and didn't want to stick around for the sinking ship. I don't blame him, he doesn't exactly have father-time on his side. Nobody wanted to trade for the cap hit who could use his services. Watch him sign late with Washington for 1.0 for a chance at the cup.

I think Kreider will command a 1st and prospect anyway, so a 2021 1st and say Bjorkqvist. Teams would outbid us if we offered a 2nd and POJ and a cond 2nd. But i'd rather not give away a 1st for a pure rental.

One of my all time favorite penguins! Hence my avatar...man the X generation pens were so awful yet so likeable.

Bless his heart and that inside/outside move he'd always try with nearly no good results but keep going back to anyway. Nobody could quite put themselves offside like ol' Rico could, either.

But no seriously those were some dark but surprisingly fun years. Helps put stuff in perspective, too. I was always very, very proud of those ~11-14K fans that just... kept on showing up despite how comically terrible and futureless the team was at that time.

That also had cap implications I believe. The Hawks knew they couldn't sign Panarin and wanted to get something of value.

That and I think it was a panicked response to getting swept so badly. Saad is also more of a “this is what he is” player now, and in his last 3 seasons has had 35 in 82, 47 in 80 (48 pace) and is currently on pace for 43 points. Chicago isn’t what they used to be, but he’s not reliably putting up low 50s every season anymore.

Oh, I think they care. This offseason is proof.

Well to be fair they'd have to maybe ask him questions directly to actually find out what he thinks as opposed to end-arounds via Gonchar and whisper campaigns through the press.

But I don't feel much like going down that road today. Not relevant.
