Sprong was gone by december that year. He wasn't part of the reason at all.

I agree, it was as simple as let's give ZAR a shot to see if he could play like he did in college as a big goal scorer that did his damage close to the net like a Hornqvist. Obviously ZAR proved he couldn't do that at the NHL level and that is okay. ZAR did a great job as a shut down defensive specialist on a very underrated line last year. This team would of been sunk last year if th ZAR-Blueger-Tanev line didn't step up and play so well against the other teams top forwards. With the Pens missing 2 of its top 3 Centers for pretty much the whole year this team would of not finished close to the 7th best record in the NHL if not for that line. Like I posted earlier ZAR actually was important to that line because they didn't do near as well without him when he was hurt. I was surprised as anyone about that. I thought ZAR was along for the ride and it was Blueger and Tanev that made that line so effective. It turns out it was all 3 as a combination.

Both Simon and ZAR got a bag of shit because they were playing on L1 and L3 over Sprong.

Deservedly so.

I mean Hornqvist was really bad from Jan - April of last year and had 0 points in the playoffs.

Like way worse than McCann was this year.

I wouldn’t say really bad except for time around the concussion. He wasn’t his usual self but still passable the more time he had away from the date of onset. I did some research on this back then so I vaguely remember.

He came back too early.

Believe Team Canada Red vs White will be live-streamed at 8 pm ET if anyone wants to watch. I probably can’t.

Could be 7 though as their timer on the website says only 1:23 until puck drop.

Are any of our college prospects playing anytime soon? I saw like the Big 10 is playing.

Thats true but it continued after sprong was gone. There were nights ZAR was playing above Horny, McCann and even rust.

Not many. ZAR's opportunities came mainly through injury, which of course is a constant here.

Poulin was on the top line tonight with Byfield and Krebs. I think Krebs had a better game, but Poulin was probably up there as the best forward on the red squad.

I think we got a steal here boys.

I agree about the steal and I think Poulin makes the Pens team this season. All this extra development time is a big plus. The NHL starting later is a real plus for all the prospects playing right now. They actually have an unfair advantage on all the players that they will be competing for a spot. It would be awesome if players like Poulin, O'Connor, and others took advantage of this time and came to camp and took spots away from players like Rodriguez and Sceviour. The lineup would look pretty strong with something like this.

Guentzel-Crosby-Kapanen
Zucker-Malkin-Rust
McCann-Jankowski-Poulin
O'Connor-Blueger-Tanev

Hendrix Lapierre on Samuel Poulin: "He’s been one of the most dominant guys in the Q since I’ve been in the league. He’s so powerful, so strong, so big. (And) he’s not just physical, he can move. Every time I have the chance to play with him instead of against him, I’ll do it."

"Ce match m'a montré que le style de jeu de Samuel Poulin serait utile dans un rôle de deuxième plan. Son intensité, sa fougue, ses prises de décision et son aplomb sont des tous des qualités qui me fait dire que sa présence serait drôlement appréciée pendant le #CMJ " @Scandale du Jour with my shitty 12 weeks of french a few years ago before I went to France and google they are saying he'll be a good support piece and he should be a good add to the team no?

Encouraging to hear nice words about Poulin's game from peers and observers, but I'm gonna need to see him rack up some points this tournament to seriously consider him for the Pens this year.

No consolation prizes for "being hard to play against" if he's a candidate for our top 9. We don't need another ZAR. We need somebody who can put up numbers.
