Arizona receives: Kristopher Letang (RHD, 33)

Pittsburgh receives: Alex Goligoski (LHD, 35)

Pens free up some short term cap space. And with Gogo's contract expiring next year, they can choose to not renew if they need cap space on a Marino deal.

Yotes gets some high-end talent to help replace OEL (if he is dealt)

You do realize that Arizona's new ownership wants to slash around $10 million right? So why would Arizona take on a more expensive Kris Letang over Alex Goligoski. Makes no sense what so ever.

They do this because they'd then flip Letang for way more than what they gave up for him, because Letang's value is dramatically higher than Goligoski's value.

Only makes sense for ARZ if they deal OEL, subtract OEL/Gogo and add Letang you're shedding 6.75 mil total fromt he D. Also depends on what the return is for OEL.

Pittsburgh reject this trade.

It’s not about cap, it’s about salary. OEL and Goligoski together will make only $8m total in further combined salary this season.

Not sure the freed up space is worth getting a worse and older and left handed Letang.

Pens say no very easily. And in no way should they trade letang. Also money wise makes no sense for the coyotes if they are slashing salary.

I don't know where to begin with how bad this trade is for the Pens....if you want Letang it's gonna cost you a decent roster player, your best prospect and a 1st round pick...minimum

I'm all for trading Letang, but this is horrid. Is Arizona adding a bunch of first round picks?

Can we do Jared McCann for Christian Dvorak next?

Or how about Pettersson for OEL?

Good lord.

I'm surprised the OP is a Pens fan. That's... really bad for the Pens, particularly considering their "win now" approach.

I would be very sad if they look to trade Letang and the only value they get is an expiring Gogo contract. That would be heartbreaking.

Letang is worth more than OEL.
