Once Marner signs, we will likely have our three best forwards locked up at 32+ million dollars. Its well known that the cap is going to be very tight, and we will ultimately lose some really good players as a result. Its very possible that our management are going to have to choose one of the options above.

Nylander will have a AAV of 7 million for the next 5 years.
Johnsson and Kapanen combined will also likely get something in the neighbourhood of 7 million for the next five years.

Assuming we MUST select one of the two options, and that Johnsson and Kapanen's cap hits would come in around 7 million combined, would you rather:
A] Keep Nylander, trade Johnsson and Kapanen for assets
or
B] Trade Nylander for assets, and keep Johnsson and Kapanen

Edit: I'm on the fence on this one. Normally, I'd go for the best player, but with three players ahead of Nylander already, the quality depth might be more necessary.

I'd rather keep Ennis at $1 along with those other 2 studs. Ennis can score from the 4th line and he's one of best assets on PP2. Nice set of mitts.

for me its way more fun enjoying having all these supertalented on the kids!

I think we all enjoy having supertalented depth. Nobody wants to lose players due to cap restraints.... but its the reality of the situation.

Wow is the overrating of kappy and johnsson getting out of hand. They will have 1 52 point season for kap and a 50 point season for AJ (assuming they maintain current pace). They aren't core pieces nor will they be as expensive as some panic merchants are worrying about

How much do you think they'll sign for?

How do we get rid of Marleau and Zaitsev without retaining any salary?

Edit: What if Marleau doesn't want to waive his NMC?

despite what leaf fans seem to think... both are easily tradeable. One of them costs 1m and takes up 6-7m in space which is great for cash strapped teams. The other makes 4.5ish mil when you folks have avg players making 5m, and Zeitsev is a NHL talent. Might just be put in a incorrect position with the Leafs who knows.
