Have to imagine Pulkkinen's trade value isn't much at all at the moment. I'd bet Jarnkrok's has taken a hit too, but obviously not as much.

I don't think Jarnkrok's has, because he's performed pretty well so far. It's just that guys being sent down have eaten up his icetime.

Let's put it this way. 2 years ago coming fresh off a SEL championship with Silfverberg, I bet his asking price was a lot higher.

Similarly, I bet Pulkkinen's trade value higher was a lot higher coming off that 54 point season.

Yandle for Tatar, one of Eaves/Samuelsson/Tootoo, Smith, and a conditional 2nd that becomes 1st if we reach the Cup finals? Overpayment? Underpayment?

Phoenix will say underpayment and that is really true in terms of what his market value is or what we believe it to be. However Yandle isn't nearly the player he is built up to be, so in that sense it is a huge overpayment. Subban and Karlsson don't deserve a lot of the heat they take for their defensive problems, Yandle deserves it. Even Letang is much better defensively than Yandle, whenever he is moved and somebody pays that big #1 D-man package they are going to be really unhappy. OEL is the best D-man on that team and it isn't close.

All of that said, Yandle is exactly what this team needs to start scoring more. I feel pretty confident in the team D, but puck moving from the blueline has taken a huge hit since Lidstrom and Rafalski retired.

Ideally you get a more rounded guy, but beggers choosers.

Yandle is great PP+ES defenceman, but he has a HUGE liability. He hasn't been on the penalty kill AT ALL in his whole career.

I really see this as a big problem. To give some perspective, even Nicklas Lidström penalty killed more minutes in his last season at reduced role, than Yandle has penalty killed during HIS WHOLE CAREER in total PK minutes.

We can't afford for two that kind of defencemen, Kindl is already from the same mold.

5.25 million offensive specialist is bad cap management. This kind of guys should be earning 2.5 million like Kindl does.

I don't know why doesn't Yandle kill penalties? Six seasons in-a-row out from PK. I pretty much think that he sucks there. You can have one that kind of defenceman on the roster at once, but since we have Kindl, there's no use for Yandle.

Honestly this is just because there has never been a reason to play him on the PK. Always had much more capable Dmen to do this. At least this was the case the last 4 years.

When you have a general lack of offensive talent at forward and better shutdown defenseman like OEL, Michalek, Klesla, Morris, Jovonoski, and Roszival on the roster, it makes perfect sense to save your most talented offensive player and exploit matchups whenever possible. Absolutely does not mean Yandle hasn't played PK - he averaged 43 seconds per game on the PK in 2010-2011.

In any case, Yandle is not germane to this thread. We already know Red Wings HFers in general think very little of Yandle and we're not interested in trading him to Hockeytown anyways.

43 secs per game means he is out from the TOP4 PK. Rafalski netted same kind of ice-time. Everybody knew that PK is not his job.

If Yandle's 6-season NHL total is less than 42-year-old Lidström's last season total, that tells something. The routine for the job is at least gone, if he is that great penalty killer (that is insanely not used on the PK). Tippet is great coach, he knows who to use and who not.

All in all, he fits well for the Yotes, if you will have those superb penalty killers instead of him. Great for Coyotes.

But he does not fit for Red Wings, because we are having same kind of guy in Kindl and two of them will cause a problem with missing PK defencemen.

That was my point.

Pulky has 2 goals so far in tonites game - will probably be 1 of the 3 stars as he is playing very well

What brought you to ask for him in the original trade?
