I'm really thinking they might be in on Keuchel. Which will have the fan bases in agony

According to reports Happ and the Yankees are getting very close. Also was reported that the Phillies would not go three years on Happ. Of course yesterday it was reported that the Phillies and Happ were close so who knows what is true and what is BS.

I think I'd prefer McCutchen over Brantley. Marwin Gonzalez is another guy who'd be an upgrade in LF.

Apparently the Phillies preferred McCutchen over Brantley as well. I think it's clear that they read my material on this board

They definitely made the right choice there. Cutch is much better defensively and will provide a little bit more power in the lineup. Wouldn't surprise me to see them come back to Brantley if they miss out on Harper though. I realize he's a decent player but I just don't see Brantley being a significant upgrade over what they already have at this point.

Also, didn't see it posted but I read today that the Phillies are aggressively in on Britton at this point.

They met with Boras to talk about Harper and Britton. Rumor had it Boras is trying to get the Phillies to take another one of his clients along with Harper, so that makes sense.

What is Phillies' status at Winter Meetings?

The Phillies prioritized free-agent left-handers Patrick Corbin and J.A. Happ to boost their rotation, but Corbin last week signed a six-year, $140 million contract with the Nationals and the Phillies expect Happ to sign a two-year contract with an option for a third year with the Yankees. The Phillies never considered a six-year offer for Corbin. It is unclear if they offered five. The Phillies never offered more than two guaranteed years for Happ, who turned 36 in October. They might have included a third-year option, but it appears it was not enough.

This was from yesterday.

I see Boras had an hour long press conference earlier today and is trying to bring the Yankees back into play
I'm starting to get a bad feeling that the Phillies will NOT get Harper or Machado but it won't be for a lack of trying. Segura and Cutch with Rhys back at first is a nice start and there are still plenty of players available besides the big two who could significantly upgrade the team. I just feel like the Phillies in some ways need that monster player/signing like a Harper or Machado to take things to the next level. A move like that sends a message to their own players, the rest of the league, and other players that the Phillies are legit again.

It’s the waiting game for Boras. Phillies are willing to spend a lot. The longer you wait out the more money that should get thrown at them if they feel they NEED a bigtime guy. If we don’t sign Harper then I would like Keuchel and Britton. I’d consider that a fair offseason.

If the Phillies land Machado instead of Harper, I think Kuechel makes a little more sense since that defense should be much improved.

Hmm, really, really feel like we’re gonna miss out on everyone. You can bet your ass CBP is gonna be empty next year if that’s the case. Owner last year was bitching that no one was going to the games, wtf.. we knew they’d collapse they lack talent at almost every position. No thanks on paying to watch that product. No Harper or machado for me is a team I’m not watching next year. The flyers are already f***ing becoming unbearable to watch. I can’t take two of em.

Here's the thing.

You can't make people sign with you. They get to free agency to make that choice, if they rather be small fish in big ponds, go for it.

Machado would be forgotten on the Yankees with Judge
Harper may be not as big, but he won't be as big as the city.

Plus with Corey Seager and Cody Bellinger on that team, he'll just be another guy on that team.

I think they do that next year with Trout, who actually might want to play here.
