Depends on what Hamels we are getting. Two years ago Hamels was borderline Cy Young candidate, last year he wasn't that good.

Crap..I forgot to Quote it. Also, Hamels would be the 2nd best pitcher on this team, even if he isn't good.

He is, a bad, reliever

Still need starting pitching. The rotation sucks

Did you see McFAIL and Klentak last few days. They both are awful, they are so analytic, klentak is afraid to make a deal.

Why do I get the feeling, they won't spend money so they can have a shot next offseason for the big guns harper and macado. What's also funny is what happens if they dont' get 1 or both of them.

They have a new 5 billion dollar tv contract and not using any of it. Not sure if any of you looked at your comcast or fios bill, but you may notice there is a regional sports fee 6.75 and broadcast fee 7.50 that basically is us paying for this new tv contract and were not using it to get better talent.

Yeah, super minor move, but he should have a role. The Phillies don't have many lefties in their system. Pretty big weakness in org from top to bottom

They have plenty of money. They could be competitive if they just invested in some starting pitching

Lynn, Arrieta, theres a bunch of other guys who would slide right in.

The division sucks other than Washington. With 60 games against the Mets, Braves, and Marlins, they could make a little noise if they did something. Window is open now

I would also see if you could find a way to get Archer. I would put Cesar or Odubel in a trade.

Arrieta seems like a good fit if he accepts a Santana-like offer--higher than market value per year with a couple of seasons of control. Lynn doesn't do anything for me.

I'd be more willing to trade Hernandez once Kingery shows better discipline in AAA. Odubel should be close to untouchable.

I could see a 3 year deal, but 8... Padres always finding ways to mess something up.

Add in Franco as well.

Side note: MLB TV listed Nola as an underdog CY candidate. I think that's a reach but possible.

Arrieta is damaged goods.
I think they might want Lynn, but not 5 or 6 year deal.
So Klentak plays it cool.

Phillies have a LOT of young arms, from the majors through A ball, the Clearwater rotation is impressive.
I think Klentak feels they're a year or two away, and by then some of these arms may emerge, so he doesn't want to get stuck in 2020 with a big contract for a 5th starter with 2-3 kids who are better forced to hang out in Lehigh.

It would be one thing if they were an 85 win team looking at adding a #2 starter for a run in 2018, but they're a 66 win team looking at pitchers who are 30+ years old and #3/#4 types.

with appel going awol on Phillies, who could he sign in his place. Had appel stayed how far along would he have been to majors had things worked out. The ken Giles trade is so far sucks. I hope Vince can bounce back. I hope we have a good pitching coach staff that can spot something mechanically and get a pitcher going. Astros continue to take used pitchers like Morton and tweke something and they look great, why can't we do that.
