Newman isn't a headcase. He's also accurate. PFF had him as the 2nd highest-graded QB on tight window throws in the country in 2019. First was Burrow, of course.

They probably just didn't like him enough to spend developmental time on him, which is fine. Remember he was a UDFA. This isn't someone they drafted. I would just prefer that the 3rd spot was used on someone developmental while they're rebuilding. When they're ready to contend, sure. Get a Mullens. Or don't sign Flacco and Mullens is your backup/mentor. I'd love that even more.

Mullens is an experienced NFL QB, they have a WR core consisting of a bunch of kids 25 and under, and a bunch of H-back candidates.

Which is more important in this TC, giving that spot to a 1 in 100 long shot UDFA QB rookie or an experienced QB who can help you evaluate and choose between a dozen receiver candidates?

Now maybe two years from now, with an established starting QB and a solid backup, and a set receiving corp, a long-shot makes more sense in that role. In that case the receivers help you evaluate the QB, not the other way around.

No, still lunacy. The most important thing this season is developing young players. If they don’t like Newman, no problem. If they do and cut him for a vet, problem. I’d prefer they find someone to develop they do like, but that’s a separate issue.

They have a clear starting QB and they signed an experienced vet backup. Mullens is not going to play. The 3rd string QB is not throwing 100 reps to Reagor every day unless they hook up after practice.

I would be completely on board with this and call it an excellent signing if Flacco wasn’t here. I’m not opposed to Mullens or the mentor QB role one tiny bit. But if Flacco doesn’t want to do that, he’s useless to you. Who cares if he can start 4 Games and play at a slightly higher level than Mullens? What value does that provide this year?

Flacco has had elbow issues, he's not throwing 100s of passes, day after day, in TC.
Nor do you want him out there in the second half of exhibition games, taking shots.

Mullens is not throw reps to Reagor or Smith, he's throwing to Watkins, Hightower, JJAW, Ausbon, Jackson, Stoll, Butler.

Or you can have a meltdown like Cole Beasley and throw your career out the window because MAH FREEDOM.
Are you Cole's doctor? How do you know that he doesn't have a legitimate reason to not want the vaccine? Also, just curious, did you consider Colin Kaepernick's actions a career ruining meltdown for MUH FREEDOM? Or is standing up for what you believe in only okay when you agree with that person's view?

His litany of tweets and responses like comparing it to the flu and bringing religion into it show it's not a medical issue for him.
