Pretty crappy from the Giants. The guy's given them a decade+ of service and two superbowls, and they bench him in a lost season for Geno Smith. Everyone knew they were moving on in the offseason, but what is there really to gain by benching him now?

They are not really benching him for Geno. They are benching him for Davis Webb but he hasn't gotten enough reps yet in practice (was third string afterall before last week) and they don't want to thrown him in there unprepared.

Honestly it feels shady and should probably not be done because of what Eli has brought to that franchise but if you are looking at it from a purely business standpoint, it is the correct move to make.

The Giants can't afford to win another game this season. They need a bottom 2 or 3 pick to land their next franchise QB (which clearly has to be the plan here). Especially given that the Eagles have found theirs and the Cowboys probably as well with Dak.

So they try to lose games while finding out if their recently picked 3rd round QB is any good. Makes sense. Eli would have way too much pride and certainly win them another one or two.
And they can't allow that to happen.

That meaningless win at the end of the season will be the difference between having to give up another 1st rounder ++ to jump up to number 2 or being able to use that pick to adress one of the other giant(pun intended) holes they have.

Especially now that the 49ers might surpass them after Jimmy G finally takes over...
