They said the same thing about him when he got traded to Pittsburgh.

I think what you see is what you get with Kessel. 30 goals, 40 assists and no effort in his own end.

I wouldn’t touch that if I were Edmonton, they will be horrible enough in their own end without Kessel’s help.
Unless he’s in Phoenix. Then it’s more like 25 goals and 20 assists because nobody can get him the puck and there’s no point in him getting the puck to anyone else. Lol.

By this logic why do Edmonton, Toronto, Calgary, NJ, or Buffalo even exist?

It's a competitive league some people have to lose.
Don’t be ridiculous. Pittsburgh got rewarded with Cosby, Malkin, Fleury and Staal because they were so good. It’s called the Kane and Toews policy. Where the league chooses the most well-run and successful team to give superstars to, which allows them to win Cups that they so richly deserve. Obviously Ovechkin and Backstrom were bonuses from the league given to the best team, the Caps. Same way Tampa got Stamkos and Hedman. :)

There’s a Nathan’s in Brooklyn. The Islanders used to play in Brooklyn. Phil to the Islanders it is.

edit: There’s numerous locations on Long Island too. Lou will even help him use his salary to open up a new location that will be the official hot dog of the New York Islanders.
You remind me of those people when asked where the police are headed, respond with "Sale on donuts at Dunkins" like they are clever and the first person to use such a lame reply

3-5 years? Ive been reading that since.... forever with this club.
Were you reading that when they traded a 20 year old Anthony DeAngelo and the 7th overall pick for a prematurely old, bald, and slow Derek Stepan and an back-up goalie that could never stay healthy in Antti Raanta? Or when they traded 24 year old Connor Murphy for a broken down Nik Hjalmarsson? Did you read that when they traded 22 year old Anthony Duclair for a declining Richard Panik in his late 20s? How about when they traded recent 3rd overall pick Dylan Strome for Nick Schmaltz? Or was it when they turned Max Domi and POJ into Phil Kessel? Maybe it was trading three prospects, a 1st, and a 2nd for a Taylor Hall RENTAL? Or maybe it was when the league sanctioned a 1st and a 2nd round draft pick from them.

Did that half decade under Chayka really strike you as rebuilding? Does that all seem like what they're doing now? Or are you just making shit up?

they had a few years of being decent. if they manage to actually develop a pick they end up trading him anyways.
You're speaking to a Florida fan. I get it-but a previous poster laid out the history pretty well.
ARI is going to walk away with 15% of the 2nd round draft in 2022. 5 second-round picks in what is seen as a deep draft next year. Absurd.

He has good value if salary retained.
Still can do his job really well.

No need to retain salary.
Phil Kessel Contract, Cap Hit, Salary and Stats - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

He's only making 1 mil this year after being paid his 5 million bonus (Which Arizona already paid). Plus Toronto is already retaining 1.2 million of his salary.

This is a premium pickup for a team needing to hit the cap floor like Ottawa or New Jersey.

New Jersey Devils Salary Cap, Draft Picks, and Player Contracts - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps
This team is scraping the floor with most of their team locked up for the season.

Ottawa Senators Salary Cap, Draft Picks, and Player Contracts - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps
About 8.5 mil below the floor. Re-signing Tkachuk for 5 or 6 mil and bringing in Kessel puts them at the floor.

Oh did not know that. Well then he has even more value.
