He was just paid a big bonus, so I don't think Arizona wants to take back salary but they can easily retain because the bonus is already paid.

Chicago seems like they're trying to win now and Shaw is on IR. This saves them 500K in cap and puts them below the cap.

Coyotes will likely retain. Max retention brings him down to 3.4 mil. And for budget teams, his remaining cash owed at that point would only be 500k because his bonus has already been paid.

In a serious note, maybe New Jersey would be a good fit? They have the cap space and could use some more scoring power.

Kessel's cash owed is only 850k this year, so Arizona will likely be more than willing to retain 50%. This brings his cap-hit down to 3.4aav for this final season on his contract.

He scored at a 29 goals per 82 games pace last season on a putrid Arizona offense.
