PHILADELPHIA FLYERS -- UNITED STATES PREMIER HOCKEY LEAGUE

See, there is a team playing at the Virtua Skate Zone here known as the Philadelphia Flyers that plays in the brand new United States Premier Hockey League.

What’s that league, you might ask?

The USPHL is uniquely positioned in the Atlantic region to facilitate a clear pathway for players graduating from Bantam hockey looking to progress through Midget and Junior Hockey on to college and pro hockey.

The USPHL will operate with 5 divisions – Premier, Elite and Empire at the Junior Level and 16U and 18U at the Midget level.

Each division provides a step in the progression to fulfilling a player’s ultimate goal of becoming a collegiate or professional hockey player.

Teams have been selected to participate in specific USPHL divisions based upon geography, strong player pools, rink ownership, financial strength and history of success and integrity at the highest level.

I believe Sanheim will get a long look next camp like Morin. There will be no rush to send him back to the Dub and he will benefit more from the time in NHL camp. Mentally he is ahead of where Morin was at the same stage. It's just he has a kid's body

This kid was a late bloomer and progressed at a pace some questioned. He may be even progressing faster this year, this could be mentioned as one of those draft steals in a few more years. So exciting

I'll be honest and say how wrong I was in this case. Sample Size his huge to me, and the small sample size of him doing well was tough for me to take. I know he did well in the U-18s and at the end of his season but it was still scary to roll on a player like that

Goes to show I was REALLY wrong though. Really interested to see him progress. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets a look next season, but Hex is HUGE on slow development so I wouldnt be surprised if he has another year in junior, and then goes to the AHL for a year or so.

Yeah, I think he gets a look next year, but like most are saying, I'd be shocked if he made the team. Especially with Morin and Ghost knocking on the door. I could see him skipping the AHL entirely, though.

I mean, you can see by that quick video what kind of hockey IQ this kid has. I haven't had a chance to watch him as much as others, but every time I have, he's making passes like that. His vision is just too good. Not to mention that he's 6'3", and an incredible skater. Just look at the way he walks the blue line. That's something that very few players can do as well as Sanheim.

And apparently he dislikes B. Schenn just as much as the rest of us. So he's got that going for him.

What will probably decide it for Sanheim is his physical maturity, if he shows up at camp at 6'3 195 he goes back to junior, if he's 6'4 210 lbs and skates like that, I mean what the heck, why waste a year in junior when he's physically ready for the NHL because the skill package is already there.

I would guess he's about 185 right now. He said he started last season at 190 and by the end of the year (combine) he lost 10 pounds. He's really slight and he figures to have another long season this year so I don't know where he's going to find time to make the kind of gains Morin did. That said he's not a guy I want too big anyway. He's not a physical player and he's great at avoiding hits. His best physical attribute is his skating and I don't think its in his best interest to just "pack on the pounds". He's not the most explosive player either so they have to be careful not to overload him, but at the same time build strength in his lower body to try and unlock another gear. His agility, pivots, and edge work are top notch though.

That's why I see him at 6'4 210 when he stops growing and starts filling out, they're not going to want him to be a monster like Morin, but they'll want him strong enough to compensate for being tall (less leverage) and be able to handle defensive chores (no matter how good he is on offense, he needs to be able to help take the garbage out of the crease).

Here's the gif I posted last night of Sanheims shift. I ran out of bandwith, so had to re-host it...

He's currently out with an injury. He got traded a couple of months so he's been playing more since the team isn't as good as his previous team. He still has a year left on his deal after this one so I guess if he's worthy of it he'll cross the pond then.

Yah sanheim, that guy is the first guy you notice on the ice. A guy with girouxs mind and skill on d. We deserve good things to happen to us. Hexy as gm is where it all starts.
As per sanheims weight I could see him coming in at 190-195' one more year in the dub and I could see him full time flyers in sept 16.

I could see this in a year or two:

AK - Giroux - Simmonds
Read - Couts - V
Raffl - Laughton - Leier
VV - Cousins - PEB/Lindblom/Goulbourne

If you could trade Schenn for a young winger and upgrade Leier, this would be a pretty deep group. And if they could draft a winger this year to eventually upgrade Read, this would be a group that could play together for an extended period. I think AK is the wildcard, can he translate his junior improvement to the NHL and be a speedy offensive threat as part of the top 6?
