Since the Big 10 Conference regular season is finished, I thought I’d share:
Wyatt Kalynuk & Tanner Laczynski’s stats:
(AKA: the get em’ signed squad)

- Wyatt Kalynuk vs. Drafted+Undrafted D+5 season Big 10 Conference Defenseman (1997 Born) w/ 25+ Games Played
- Undrafted defenseman are included only because 1 other drafted Big 10 Conference defenseman is in this sample of players

- Tanner Laczynski vs. Drafted D+5 FWDS playing in the Big 10 Conference (1997 Born) w/ 25+ Games Played

**They should sign Allison too**

I check in on the prospect threads from time to time and haven’t noticed any mention of Wyatt Wylie among the prospects. Does anyone know much about his play? He’s putting up good numbers this year but I haven’t seen any WHL games so that’s all I know about him.

It's a shame Gordon probably won't be back after the phantoms disappointing season. Guys continued to progress down there and I think his style is well suited to young players. Ahl guys aren't NHL guys for a reason and he has serious flaws but I think if they had told him in the summer to implement av's system it would have been a different year.

Gordon is probably the worst coach in the AHL.

Since this is semi related, on the main boards I saw a thread on how the Sens AHL team and their kids are doing....quite impressive:

With Ottawa's AHL team hovering around 2nd in the AHL, and was 1st at one point recently, im curious to know of recent AHL teams that were carried top heavy almost exclusively by 21 years and under players.Or even around that.

Batherson 51 points in 40 games AHL points leader until recalled 21 years old
Norris 58 points in 51 games (rookie) 20 years old 4th in AHL scoring
Formenton 52 points in 56 games (rookie) 20 years old 6th in AHL scoring
Brannstrom 23 points in 27 games 20 years old 2nd in the AHL in PPG as a defender
L. Brown 28 points in 25 games 21 years old 1.12 PPG
Abramov 36 points in 47 games 21 years old
Balcers 36 points in 33 points (22)

For anyone interested Max Willman got a real boost out of his AHL time. Back with the Royals this week he scored 4 goals and had 5 assists in four games. He has a very good chance of capturing ECHL player of the week honors.

The Royals played Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun and took 7 points - only loss was in their first shootout of the season. The 7 minute 3 on 3 overtime experiment has almost eliminated shootouts this season)

It may well have been a case of not trying to do everything in one year, Gordon being a stopgap while AV and Fletcher focused on revamping the NHL roster.

Having good AHL coaching doesn't necessarily translate into NHL players, while it's worked for Pittsburgh, Toronto?
Trevor Moore UDFA
Dmytro Timashov #125
Travis Dermott #34
Frederick Gauthier #21
Pierre Engvall #188
Andreas Johnsson #202
Kasperi Kapanen #22
William Nylander #8
Nazem Kadri #7
Connor Brown #156

While they marinated players like Kapanen, Nylander, Kadri and Gauthier for multiple AHL seasons, it's not like these were untalented players who were coached up, in fact, given their draft status, they were kept down in the AHL longer than Hextall's top picks for the most part.

Toronto didn't have a great record of polishing lumps of coal into diamonds.
Johnsson is a 3rd line guy. Brown was a 3rd line guy, though he's 1st line in Ottawa (tallest midget).

Connor Brown was a 6th rd pick at #156(2012). Might want to edit.

Good catch, he's been a solid find, but more of checker type, 29, 25, 25 ES points, then 34 this year in Ottawa on their 1st line (16:04 a night).
