Phantoms are looking stacked this year. Seems to be a destination AHL franchise now. That's what a top of the line arena and facilities does for ya.

Tony Androck mentioned it back in July. Wonder if he was holding out for a better offer in Europe or elsewhere. I sense he'll get a tryout to Flyers camp while he's at it.

There is a definite reputation out there already for arena/facilities. I've seen a few people mention that the facilities are better than some NHL teams. Location is a big plus as well, I actually just did that drive across I-78 through New Jersey and NYC metro.

Tough to project a lineup six weeks out, but here's mine based on these rosters. I think Lyubimov starts the season with the Flyers with Schenn out for the first three games. After that, someone will need to be sent down. That someone should be VDV.

Couldn't get an NHL deal? That's surprising. Vandevelde didn't have an NHL contract with the Flyers originally either so...:dunno:

Vandevelde didn't have as many people in front of him back then. We were devoid of prospect depth so there was an opportunity for him.

Looks likely that Swavely, Sundher, and Mathers start the season in Reading, along with two out of Willcox, Pettersson and Lamarche.

I'm assuming Stolarz gets the majority of the starts in Lehigh Valley, with Dekanich signed so they have a capable, experienced backup to fill in if Stolarz is called up or hurt. Lyon and Ouelette probably splitting the starts in Reading at the beginning of the year to get Lyon some pro experience.

I don't think it means anything to be honest. The flyers weren't going to give him a spot on the team before camp starts. He obviously has to earn his spot on the Flyers so I think him reporting to Brandon is just for the chance that the team does send him back after preseason. I doubt they told him anything regarding their plans for him this year. They just want him to prove himself in camp and preseason to get a roster spot.

I hadn't considered that Lyon might get some ECHL games, but it makes sense with some of the huge gaps in the Phantoms schedule.

Barring poor play, I'd be surprised if Lyon played in the ECHL. Plenty of back to backs in the AHL for him and Stolarz to get plenty of work.

Sarnia starts their pre-season up tonight against London. Salinitri is in the lineup but not Konecny.

I mentioned it a little back that they signed two other imports & to fuel the fire some more Zacha hasn't even been at their camp to this point. So I'm thinking he's pretty much slated to play in the NHL this year.

Lots of promising goaltenders have started their careers in the ECHL. Jonathan Quick being the most famous to play part of a season (38 games) in Reading while guys like Danny Taylor and Erik Ersberg played ahead of him in Manchester. Kings had a bunch of injuries that year, ended up using 7 goalies in the NHL. If not for that Quick might have had more time in Reading. Dekanich did play in the ECHL last year, but he is an experienced AHL goalie and looks more like the veteran insurance guy you keep around in case of multiple injuries.

Hopefully all this added depth means they're expecting some promotions this year.

Knight's another UND kid, and he has decent size, so I can see it, but I don't like the excessive number of veteran smurfs they've signed for the Phantoms. It's just going to take PP time away from the actual prospects, esp. when Weal is sent down.

Speaking about UND, has there been any updates on Matej Tomek? I've looked high and low and saw nothing about him attending the recent rookie camp or anything like that. It's almost as if he's dropped off the face of the planet.
