Hagg is having a sophomore slump but don't give up on him just yet. He has a couple of years left to get his game up to NHL level.

I don't think they'll give up on Hagg, rather, he'll fall into Manning/Alt land, where you're an afterthought that makes the NHL roster due to injury or because you're a cheap 7th defenseman. Wilcox is destined to the same role unless he shines in Allentown.

I guess on Hagg it depends what they're doing with him in practice and if his confidence has waned, because the first instinct is that you'd rather he play and work through whatever issues he's having.

The way their roster is setup they've been running with 8 defensemen & 11 forwards for most of the year. The league has a rule where you can only dress so many veterans which has caused this to a degree. They've basically been rotating Hagg, Marti, & Lamache out as the 9th defensemen the last month or so.

So Hextall moving a defensmen at or before the deadline with the Flyers would also have a good trickle down effect in LV.

I think Hagg's NHL future is pretty questionable at this point since the bar has been lowered but it's not a certainty as time is still on his side.

It's not just this year but his two previous seasons since being drafted were too up & down. You could even argue that first year in Sweden was a wasted year in development.

The good thing is guys like Friedman, Provorov, & Myers were added to the mix the last two drafts to add on to the Flyers backend depth. I personally got them all rated higher than Hagg at the moment.

I would let AMac play tonight and just insert Medvedev against the Rags tomorrow since he's been playing with the Flyers all season, and then reassess the D pairings on Monday. But that doesn't seem to be the plan.

Hagg just turned twenty-one last week. It's interesting to see a second round Euro get washed off the prospect list.

That's what I'm saying. Ok so he hasn't had that great of a year, but maybe people are jaded by the way Ghost has played and Provorov and Morin and Sanheim have developed. The kid hasn't even played 2 full years in America yet and is ONLY 21 years old! Let's give him a couple more years before we write the kid off as a bust

Well when you haven't been progressing enough since being drafted & have the worst achilles heel a defensive defensmen can possibly have (not agressive enough) people have every right to be skeptical of his future.

Patience is something that Flyers fans really need to develop. Ghost has spoiled us. From this thread, I'd be led to believe that Hagg and Morin are scrubs; Sanheim is over rated and should be dealt and Povorov is the only defensive prospect of the bunch. Believe me, if Hextall wanted to trade off Hagg, Morin and Sanheim, there wouldn't be a team in the league that wouldn't be lining up to get any one of them. Trade off these guys and be ready to watch them play well if not star with other organizations.

I'm not & never suggested trading Hagg. We wouldn't get much anyway. The best course of action is just to wait it out & see if something drops but that doesn't mean you can't be skeptical of something. The depth the Flyers have built of the year on the backend has afforded them this luxury as well as protects them from any failure of a prospect.

The difference with the other guys is that they've made enough progressions to the certain point in the careers & have more translateable traits in their game to the NHL. They might not reach their absolute perceived ceiling but I'm confident in saying they'll catch on in the NHL in some capacity. I can't say that with Hagg at this point, could that change? Maybe but right now I'm not seeing enough to say that.

I think bad skating is a worse flaw for a dman to have, but clearly there's reason to be concerned about him.

Hagg now has the chance to play more with AMac called up, so hopefully he can grab the opportunity to finish the season on a good note. Bob Rotruck tweeted AMac was playing nearly 30 minutes a game. That seems too high, but even 25 is a lot to replace.

Goumas got cross checked in the head by a guy who was mad his shot didn't get thru and rushed off the ice in major pain. But he looks OK.

Refs let it go.
