I assume this means there is truth to the rumour that Gaborik is retiring, if not, this is insanely bad.

Otherwise, we retained (1.62M/1.62M/1.375M) on a buyout proof contract. If it's true that Gaborik retiring, this is an extremely solid move by Dorion. We got Phaneuf for the rest of the "let's win because Karlsson" years, and dumped while taking on less money than we gave up (Cowen+Greening+(slightly) Michalek).

I don't know how I feel about this... 100% money related. I personally liked phaneuf the player but the contract was cancerous. However I felt like we'd get more especially retaining and taking Gaborik.

You know. I'm fine with this. If Gaborik can stay healthy he should fit nicely into the middle 6 and Nick shore is only 25 and looks promising, better than Thompson at least?
They key here is we didn't have to give up any of our picks/prospects, that's something we haven't been able to say since Dorian took the reigns.
