I believe it was a mistake to play Fleury yesterday. A struggling offensive Nashville > Devils for Zatkoff. Fleury should have been in today.
Also, with regard to Maatta. He needs to be in today. Bylsma has the incredibly destructive habit of sitting young guys after a few mistakes. This does nothing but kicks them when they are down and hurts the confidence. Maatta's strength has been his confidence and ability to rebound after a mistake. You take that opportunity away from him and you are doing nothing but cutting down his strengths by showcasing his momentary weaknesses. Now instead of focusing on what he needs to be doing right, he's going to be more occupied by focusing on not doing something wrong again so that he doesn't get benched.
On top of that, watching veteran players **** up and have nothing happen to them doesn't help inspire confidence in younger players who get punished for it either.
You brought the kid in because he proved to be one of the better defenders, you're burning a year of his ELC. He needs to be in to get the chance to rebound. What little credibility Bylsma has left will be erased should he bench Maatta in favor of Bortz, Engo, Nisky, etc.
Nisky-Letang
Martin-Orpik
Maatta-Bortz
Not that hard. Maatta has 10x more to gain and lose by playing vs not playing compared to Engo.
