I don't think Niemi would do worse next season than what Fleury did in the regular season, and I imagine he'd be cheap due to getting bought out. I'm fine with this. Even if he puts up like a .910 save% next year, that's fine for a backup.

It's a steal. I don't understand the posters who want to find a reason to hate every deal that gets made.

What proof has GMJR given us he doesn't know what he's doing?

This is exactly the deal we need for a backup until they make a decision on Jarry.

his Dallas years were garbage but his San Jose tenure was pretty damn solid (Vezina finalist in 12-14). for league minimum it's worth see what he could do.

We all knew this was coming...but Niemi was basically the worst case scenario to me. Getting him signed right out of the gate seems completely unnecessary.

I wouldn't be surprised if we wind up needing Jarry by the end of the season, but Niemi should at least buy him another half season of proper development...
