Angello will be interesting cuz he can skate.
He puts it together with his size/skill at the next level and he has a better chance of panning out than most.
Skating is half the battle nowadays.

5th round pick. So you know he will pan out.

Team is great at drafting in the 3rd and 5th rounds.

Now if they can get better in the earlier rounds..

His agent, Murray Kuntz of the International Hockey Group, had done a thorough analysis of each organization’s depth from top to bottom. The more they weighed the decision the more Florida’s AHL proposal made sense.
“You could sign a NHL contract, but at the end of the day if you never play in the NHL, what’s that really worth?” said Kuntz.

Blaine Byron on forgoing NHL deals to sign with Florida's AHL affiliate - Sportsnet.ca

Seems like the agent's last name is accurate.

Well, that's terribad advice. Given his production this year he'll probably have to take another AHL deal, then try and earn an ELC.

Hah, Byron signed an AHL-only deal? What a dipshit.

ELCs have to have some kind of signing bonus alone that, for an NCAA kid that can start a bidding war, would be pretty substantial.

Best case scenario Byron got a 1 year deal for $125,000. Absolute best case scenario, as most AHL teams aren't wasting money on unproven players.

Standard minor league salary for an ELC is $70,000, but he'd have also got a bonus of $92,500 per year. So even if he spent the whole season in the AHL he'd have earned $162,500 for the year and that's without any NHL time.

If his plan had worked he'd still have to sign a 1 year ELC for next season. Which would mean he earned over the 2 years, $287k which is less than the $325k he'd have earned if he just signed a 2 year ELC.

Bummer Byron. Guess he thought he would get signed to ELC by a team that would play him in NHL this season. Didn't work out so well...

I'm unreasonably excited about Angello because he's from my Alma Mater. 6'5" can't be taught, and he's fast. It's sometimes hard to tell with the pads on, but he looks NHL thick too. Not a bean pole that will need 2 years to add enough muscle to survive at the top level. Could be a nice add to the big club in a couple years.

Like the signing. Know we are in the here and now and winning like crazy, but this team really needs to rebolster it’s farm system.

Will probably occur when we hit the end of this run and assets are traded off, but more youth and potential can’t hurt right now.
