I like Horny, but lets not get too carried away with blank checks and max term here. Horny could turn into Okposo or Ladd pretty easily. Horny is in a good spot here and he knows that.
25 mil for 5 years
22 mil for 4 years
20 mil for 3 years

Ultimately, Hornqvist realizes that a slight raise with term much like how Kunitz re-signed is beneficial for both parties to be able to handle upcoming contracts that need re-signed. Murray, Guentzel, Rust and so on.

He makes 4.250 now, so it would be beneficial for both parties to leave wiggle room like 4.750(19.0)/4.850(19.4) for a 4 year term. Longer term drops the cap hit down and shouldn't go below 4.5 per for a 5/6 year term.

That's what I'd be looking for. If he wants paid big money they simply cannot do that unless it's 3 years or less.

Offering him 4.5 or 4.75 is a complete joke, and seems like a good way to ensure he tests free agency.

Or, the two parties understand the position the 'Team' is in and he wants to stay. Kunitz could have easily walked and got paid 5.0+++ and chose to stay for a mere .100 raise for 4 years from 3.750 to 3.850. Hornqvist isn't doing that drastic of a discount, but he should look at all the positives it bring for both parties if he does sign at a modest raise.

This is his 4th season here, you can't sell low on convenience. The nominal gains are probably not worth chasing. He knows wherever he goes it's most likely to finish out contending for nothing if he's trying to cash in.

He has a home if he truly wants it.

The grass is greener on the other side comes at a cost. Mostly happiness.
