To be one of leaders in the minus dep't and being able to reach over 40 pts shows what kind of defenseman he is.
Just for fun, I took the top 10 defenseman that have the worst +/-. Included in the top 10:
- Nick Leddy
- Ekman-Larsson
- Justin Faulk
- Erik Karlsson
- Duncan Keith
- Brady Skjei

Petry was 2nd in the list after Leddy. Honestly pretty good company to be with. All of the player's teams are all teams that are missing the playoffs as well.

[QUDavid lol.OTE="Legend123, post: 143983303, member: 274147"]I feel like its the perfect time to trade high on Byron. Hes prob gonna maintain this 20 goal pace cuz of the new changing NHL relying heavily on speed, and hes prob worth a lot...[/QUOTE]
Byron to Edmonton and play him with McDavid.

If you're going to use goal differential as a measure of a player's ability — which, I beg you not to, because there are measures out there that are far better at predicting future goal differential — then you should at least find the per 60, otherwise you're being intellectually dishonest

On the subject of Paul Byron: Wowsers, this guy is great. One of very few guys in the league who can shoot 17.5% and you know it can be sustained. Can't believe that less than two years ago people were whining about the term on his 1.16M contract. There's enough crow to be eaten there to feed a whole family

160 pounds forward playing a grinding game every nights is probably prone to get injured eventually. Hope he recovers well, we will need a good return in a trade for him next year.

I wonder when Byron injured his shoulder? Was it at the end of the season or much earlier? Unless he got injured in the last game of the season he should've been shut down when the injury happened and surgery performed then to give him more time to be ready for training camp. Anyone have any idea when this shoulder injury actually happened?

Hopefully he's healthy and doesn't miss too many games to start next season.

WTF?

When did the injury happen? And why the hell did he keep playing?

Another franchise management fail. At the minimum, he needed to be shut down the day we were out of PO contention, this surgery could have happened 2 months ago, which would have had him back for preseason vs November.

Just another clear display of MB's management ineffectiveness & incompetence

lol....cmon...there are enough things to kick Bergevin about...we don't know any of the details about this and you're already blaming Bergevin for it. Could of been a nagging thing that Byron was playing through and told trainers that it didn't effect his game...could of been something that occured in the last game...could of been alot of things.

Facts we know:

- he had post season surgery to repair damage
- recovery from said surgery is 6 months (best case)
- the team was out of playoff contention months ago
- he played until last game of the season

Now, short of him injuring himself after the season, there is no excuse for the team allowing him to continue playing until April with an ailment requiring surgery.

Having a medical team that is on the ball and effectively managing player injuries and rehab is crucial in this business.

All of the facts above point to a collosal failure in that area... That, or worse, an intentional decision. Either way, it is further incompetence from the organization.

That there are so many other areas of execution where the organization comes up short doesn't negate or diminish the failure here

We have to realize that a lot of players play through pain and keep their mouths shut about it. It’s not like the team performs weekly MRIs on their roster. He probably just told the trainer and physio that his shoulder is sore but fine.

We can speculate till were blue in the face, bottom line remains that this is an terrible miss.

A good training staff a a strong culture in a sport team contributes to the open honest dialogue required to be on top of these things.

With likely daily interactions, there is no way a player could disguise a significant ailment from a quality trainer...

An organization out of the playoffs, I would argue, needs to be focused beyond the remainder of the season...

Doing extensive diligence on contracted players (vs expiring ones) to identify and proactively identify issues requiring surgical intervention is a best practice that MB clearly doesn't grasp...

& Let's face it, this is but one of many medical blunders by the team under his leadership

I wouldn’t extend a guy that’s injured. Not so I think the Habs should be the ones giving him a big raise.
With that thinking the please don’t extend Danault. Byron is way more valuable and better player to boot than Danault

So the shoulder surgery and the 6 month timeframe has him coming back around early to mid October which is right around when the season starts . Let’s hope he recovers well and he should be good to go for next season . He’s definitely been a bright spot since he joined the team .

Its starting to feel like Bergy hired the medical staff as well. "I know you arent a doctor but Uncle Larry tells me you like Greys Anatomy. We have an opening on our medical staff"

Fair criticism. However, it didn't affect his play much. It may have been painful to play with an injured shoulder. After all, every player plays in pain. But they may have determined that he needs surgery during the final medical evaluations done at the exit meetings.

Clearly they did... My point is that if you are operating with the big picture in mind, the second a season is effectively "over", it would & is best practice for the medical staff to provide detailed assessments of assets (players) and, where necessary, shut down any player whom will require surgery.
