It is. Almost as comically bad as the personnel he had to choose from in his bottom 6... apparently it makes sense to have Freddy Gauthier and Tyler Ennis wasting roster spots when you can afford a PK specialist or two with the top 3 lines being as potent as they are.

Blaming the HOF coach for the poor roster make-up couldn’t sound more foolish yet here you are. Again.

Not everyone takes only bottom 6 forwards for their PK though.

Tavares has PK'd in New York.

Matthews should have been learning how to PK since he's come into the league.

I hope Dubas takes a lesson from Masai when it comes to being absolutely ruthless to get the team to the top. There's no room for sentiment or iron man streaks or fan favourites or veteran respect or legacy appointments or any other crap. Make the team better or get the the hell out of the way!

In other words, Dubas must find a way to make Marleau disappear.

Teams are asking for Kapanen to take MArleau. Love that the league is keeping Dubas bent over a barrel. Wouldn’t be surprised if Kyle resigned out of shame.

Precisely. This is a business. These guys are just higly skilled meat sacks that exist for our entertainment. I want a championship, not sentiment.

He took the job with that contract on the books.

That's the reality for any incoming GM that isn't a George McPhee starting from scratch with VGK. There will be both good and not as good deals on the books. Inheriting a playoff team as a rookie NHL GM probably isn't too shabby either.

I don't remember exactly what he said or didn't say, I'm talking about what Leaf fans here were saying when he was signed.
This was all Babs. Babs pushed the 3rd year real hard and then made up the entire story line. and he will stick with it to the end. Another salvage project for Dubie taking out the garbage.

By this logic, whichever GM replaced Dubas (as so many here want) would immediately be responsible for the Nylander and Matthews contracts, right?

If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at Lou. Both Zaitsev and Marleau's contracts were his doing. Those are the contracts we are going to have problems moving.

Sounds like Arizona has moved off the ask of Kapanen or Johnsson to take Marleau.

I assume Arizona's interest in Marleau is purely for his cap hit (relative to actual dollars paid out). If so, wouldn't the logical solution here be for the Leafs to trade Marleau to Arizona, then have Arizona flip him to San Jose with max salary retention? Toronto relieves themselves of Marleau's cap hit, Arizona gets the cap hit they need to reach the floor and San Jose gets a cheap Marleau.

Arizona is well above the floor. Arizona has less cap space than the Leafs.

Arizona doesn't need cap to reach the floor.

The more logical trade here is Toronto retaining 50%, then Arizona retaining 50% so San Jose gets him at a 75% discount.

My comment is in relation to this

Thanks
I did not see that
I just look at Arizona's cap situation and they need to re-sign some of their own RFAs and they are already at the cap floor. They will need a major incentive to take him on. Don't think of Arizona as a garbage dumpster any more. They want to compete.
