Makes sense given he was not able to get a contract this year. Would have been cool to see him get the 21 games for 1800 and 3 points for 1200 but alas was not meant to be.

Hung around too long, but had a great career. Seems like a very nice person as well. Enjoy retirement Patrick.

Is he a HOF though? He has 1197 points, but it took him almost 1800 games to get it. All those around him with less points but in the HOF are either point-per-game players or d-men, Marleau has a 0.673 p/pg, which is 346th on the All-time list. He has no major awards and the only claim to fame he has is All-Time Games Played.

Marleau had an extraordinary career, for sure. His last couple years in the league clawing his way to the games played record were rough, but he was great for a long, long time.

Pretty cool to see Marleau go out of his way to talk about how it felt to play for Toronto and Pittsburgh. His time with both teams will go down as a footnote in his career, but you can tell it meant a lot to him.

Love Patty, my favorite player. I'm on my way to the press conference right now. With regards to stats, I will bring this up every time they're discussed for a player from his generation. They lost a year of their prime from the 04-05 lockout, and then another combined year from the following lockout and covid shortened season. Yes, performance is all hypothetical, but context has to be taken into account too.

He'll get in, but he absolutely does not deserve to be a HOF'er

It took him 1800 games to get only 1200 points. No invidual awards, and never even sniffed one, only 2x Top 10 in goals and never Top 10 in points, no AS-1 or AS-2 nods, no real Hart votes with only a 9th place which is pity votes.

His career 82 gm averages are a whopping 26 goals and 57 points...

Stand up guy and player, I wish you the best on your after hockey pursuits my dude.

As for the HOF discussion, getting the all time games played record is a massive record, its a testament to his commitment and longevity, it would be the only reason he gets in, it's a pretty huge record.
