This is definitely the worst series I have seen Bergeron play. I have no problem admitting it even if I hate having to do so.

I do have a hard time believing he goes from career year to dud in the span of two weeks for no reason, so my guess is he's injured. Maybe that puck off the foot at the end of the regular season?

Illness could be a factor but then again he scored four goals against Carolina last year while sick.

The good news is that in 2013 I believe he and his line didn't have a good series in round 1 against Toronto.... You know, until game 7, when things got interesting :D

Please play better, Bergy. Whatever the reason.

Careful..... Injuries are nothing more than excuses.

I think he's injured. That plus going up against Tavares (who is a stud and one of the best centers in the game) is not easy.
His shutting Tavares down is an undersold story in this series. JT had 47 goals this year and just an empty netter through 5 games so far.

Someone mentioned Bergeron taking a shot off his foot before the playoffs. That sounds like exactly what’s ailing him because his skating right now isn’t good. But yeah, Tavares has been quiet so far which is good.

IMO he looked renewed in games 6 and 7. Locked down Tavares and got some offensive zone time going.

He's still not looking "dangerous" to me, nor has he been shooting well. He had one good look last night, but his shot was somehow blocked. That was his series in a nutshell (from an offensive perspective).

I suspect at least him and pasta are two of the "dinged up" guys Sweeney was talking about. Hope he is getting better, no rest coming up any time soon

He was playing almost purely defense by the end. At one point in g7 they had 9 faceoffs and 8 were dzone.

You cant expect a 28 year old Patrice to be the same as a 33 year old version (playoffs)

He is still amazing at his 1st priorities. Faceoffs and shadowing the opposings best..

I was getting a little concerned with Bergy's play for most of the series but thought he looked much better in Games 6 and 7, though still not 100%. It definitely looks like he has an issue affecting his skating to my eye - he was just a bit slower getting to pucks than normal earlier in the series. He seemed to have more of a jump the past two games. I'm hoping it's just a bruise or something along those lines that will heal on its own, not something lingering.

His foot must be broken because his skating isn’t there..

That was definitely a rough one, although he did look better in the first OT. I think he's been "fine" for the most part when it comes to defense even if he's not chipping in offensively, but tonight was a rough one overall. Everyone is always quick to say injury, but I'm not sure what it would be. Maybe he looks a little bit slower? Whatever it is, it's not something that has affected his faceoffs at all.

I hope/expect that penalty will piss him off in a good way.

huh?

He was fine tonight...and those shots in OT should have gone in, especially the 2nd one if Bob wasn't channeling his inner Timmy Thomas

the game winning PP goal penalty sukks....but no way you can pin that on him.

Patrice will make that one up

I disagree. He looks tired but played a good game, not stellar but good.

The game ebbs and flows and it’s rare you can pin a loss on any one player.

But let’s call a spade a spade. That was a terribly stupid penalty. He had no angle on the guy and the only thing he was going to get by reaching his stick in there was the guy’s feet. He only missed the puck by about four feet.

It’s up there with that “high sticking” penalty against MTL (or was it Tampa?) from behind the net back in 2011 (which may not have actually been a penalty) in terms of “why” factor.

I would pin the issue on Coyle dummy turnover before I do on Bergeron penalty

both weren't smart

This is all perception, and no research, but I swear that goals result directly from turnovers 20x as much in the playoffs. You can have carefully played, and somewhat uneventful, games entirely determined by goals scored following turnovers. I swear. It truly is unbelievable when you get the idea in your head and start to tally how many goals are scored directly following egregious mistakes.

end of the day its a game of turnovers and minimizing damage and capitalizing on your chances

The Debrusk turnover starting in the 2nd OT, was fluky.

If Bobrovski gave up that mid ice dump in, would have been considered a fluke.

What Coyle did was very irresponsible. You can't just no look pass it to the middle of the ice. It was an unforced turnover
