Jets-fans-300x225.jpg

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets make moves on defence. He did confirm he will be in the lineup tomorrow night.

Winnipeg Sun: Ellerby set to make Jets debut. He was quite enthusiastic at getting the opportunity to be an everyday player in a Canadian city.

Illegal Curve: Coach Noel presser. Kane update. What does he expect from Ellerby? Thoughts on pulling Pavelec. Expectations on Zach Redmond. Talk about the Red Wings.

Illegal Curve: Player audio from MTS Centre. After practice audio from Keaton Ellerby, James Wright and Zach Bogosian.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets’ game shows bright spots — and room for improvement. Gary looks at a bunch of different aspects of last night’s win over the Blues including Trouba’s health, Setoguchi as healthy scratch, thin at centre, Steen’s strong play, Buff on Team USA, 6th defenceman, Team Canada D, crazy trade talk and Kane’s silly penalties.
Kane-complains-about-call-against-Blues-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Free Press: Trouba OK after scary crash into boards. I have never witnessed anything at a live event quite like that and it was easily the quietest I have ever heard inside the MTS Centre yesterday. Everyone was quite happy to read Jacob’s joking tweet well after the incident took place.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets finally find clear skies. Before anyone goes planning a Stanley Cup parade it is important to mention that these Blues had played in Chicago less than 24 hours previous. At the same time, it was impressive to come back from a two goal deficit, rather than meekly accepting their fate.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets fans sticking fast with pins. I recall a pin craze during the 1999 Pan Am Games which were held here in Winnipeg. In this instance fans love to collect anything that is connected with the Jets.

Winnipeg Sun: Snapshots – Kane provides the spark. The FU attitude was all the talk pre-game and Kane brought it into the contest as well. Paul also covers the Kane penalty troubles and subsequent benching, the injury to Trouba and the continued line juggling by coach Noel.

Winnipeg Sun: Scary moments for Jets, Trouba. You could see the concern on the faces of every player on that Jets bench (as well as the Blues bench for that matter) in addition to the 15,004 fans inside the MTS Centre who quietly waited for any sign that the rookie would be alright. His wave as he was escorted off the ice, had the entire MTS Centre erupting in cheers.

Illegal Curve: Jacob Trouba leaves ice on a stretcher. It was a terrible thing to witness but it was also rewarding to see the brotherhood of hockey players extend past the respective jerseys players wore. From Blues Steen/Paajarvi waiting to skate the stretcher to Trouba to the reaction of the 15,004 fans we have it documented. (Post features pictures).
Trouba-being-helped-off-ice-on-stretcher-300x200.jpg

TSN: Tough decisions pay off for Noel, Jets. The buzz began just before puck drop when coach Noel tweaked his lines to scratch Tangradi and Setoguchi in favour of Peluso and Cormier.

IceCaps news:

CBC: IceCaps support breast cancer awareness. Always a good thing when organizations help to raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer.

The Telegram: ‘We don’t give up’ says coach McCambridge. The St. John’s coach gives an assessment of his squad prior to action against Hershey.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Trouba smiling after scary injury — could be out a month. Good to see him smiling, laughing and signing autographs today at the IcePlex.

Winnipeg Sun: Trouba in good spirits — and neck brace. Seeing a young player in a neck brace isn’t a good sight, but considering how it looked last night, it is not as bad as it could have been.

TSN: Jets place rookie Trouba on injured reserve, recall Pardy. With the injury to the prized rookie and with Redmond still rehabbing down with St. John’s, Pardy gets the call.

Illegal Curve: Interview with Jets assistant coach Charlie Huddy.
Huddy-talks-to-Bogosian-300x200.jpg

Assistant Coach Charlie Huddy – Has he talked to Trouba? How impressed it he with Trouba’s transition has been to the NHL? How does he guard against Bogosian putting too much pressure on himself? Defence getting in on the forecheck. Putting Bogosian on the left side. Why more left handed shooting guys playing the offside on defence as opposed to right handed shooting guys? Guard against players losing their confidence when they are shuffled in and out of the lineup. Team defence concept. What is his position on ‘fronting’ players vs. clearing players out? How has the adjustment been to hybrid icing?

Illegal Curve: Coach Noel audio from IcePlex. Jets bench boss spoke to the media following today’s optional. Lots of injury updates,

Illegal Curve: Jets audio from IcePlex. Hear from Evander Kane, Grant Clitsome, Devin Setroguchi and Anthony Peluso.

Illegal Curve: Jets Jacob Trouba speaks to media about injury. Hear from the rookie as he speaks about last night’s horrific injury.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Miles and miles to go, says Olli. The Jets still are aways away but it seems like they may be showing signs that they are ready to move in the right direction. Another big test tonight against a Predators team that played last night in Montreal. Tim also looks at Setoguchi being sat down, Evander’s benching and why Peluso was chosen for the shootout.
Jokinen-shootout-goal-300x146.jpg

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets have themselves dynamic duo in Buffstrom. The chemistry these two have demonstrated is pretty clear cut. They seem to have quite the symbiotic relationship.

Winnipeg Free Press: Trouba dodges serious harm. You really get a sense of the family aspect of this team. Nice to hear that everyone showed up at the hospital to check out the rookie.

Winnipeg Sun: Hoping to build on Friday’s rally. Another good start to the game, combined with avoiding those critical errors that always seem to become goals against, and this team could well be on its way to pulling off a big win against another central division rival.

Winnipeg Sun: Setoguchi takes benching in stride. Despite some early flashes of chemistry with his line, coach Noel was clearly looking to send a message to one of the newest member of the squad.

Illegal Curve: Coach Claude Noel presser. Following practice yesterday coach Noel spoke to the media. Listen here.

Illegal Curve: Players audio from IcePlex. Listen to Evander Kane, Grant Clitsome, Devin Setoguchi and Anthony Peluso.

Illegal Curve: Jacob Trouba talks to the media. The young rookie was in good spirits yesterday despite wearing a neck brace after sustaining a horrific injury in Friday night’s game against the Blues. If you missed it, we covered it here.

Jets opponent (Nashville Predators) news:

The Tennessean: Predators at Jets preview. One of our guests on the show gives you a preview of tonight’s game from the Nashville side of things.

The Tennessean: Seth Jones late goal gives Nashville win over Montreal. The 4th overall pick in 2013 showed some slick moves when he scored the game winner with just a few minutes to go in the 3rd period.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets can’t be satisfied with past victories. Basically the hunger needs to be present each and every time you step on the ice. You cannot rest on your laurels based on one victory if you ever hope to really make some noise in this league.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets vs. Predators gameday. The guys bring you a look from inside the locker room with video interviews with the players and a preview of tonight’s game.

CBC: 5 things to watch. Jeff looks at the thin blue line, Buffstrom dominating, Setoguchi’s sitdown, Pekke problems and rookie watch.
Enstrom-and-Buff-300x200.jpg

NHL.com: Injuries force Jets to find new third defense pairing. Should be very interesting to see what the final time on ice is gonna look like for the defence when this game is over.

Jets news:

ESPN: Power Rankings. The Jets fell four spots after a win and two losses since last Monday.

Winnipeg Free Press: Big Buff worth weight in gold. He has made some big improvements to his game this season although fans would like to see him eliminate mental mistakes like the one he made last night which resulted in the short handed chance/goal.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets serve up Sunday stinker. Not exactly a model of consistency. The Jets win, lose, win, lose manner has to change if this team is serious about making the playoffs. They are giving away critical home ice points and if you look at the upcoming schedule, it doesn’t get any easier once this favourable home stand ends.

Winnipeg Free Press: Trotz thinks Jets-Preds rivalry will grow. Unlike coach Hitchcock’s audio from Friday night which lasted about 30 seconds, coach Trotz stood in with the local media and chatted for about 8 minutes following the win over the Jets. The Dauphin, Manitoba native gave some really interesting answers when questioned about having a rivalry with the Jets.
Hutton-Ladd-and-Jones-300x174.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Snapshots – no power in that power play. Worse than the missing power play is allowing the short handed chance and goal. Also covers Pavelec as a non-sniper, lineup juggling, Jones as advertised, Wilson building consistency.

Winnipeg Sun: No party for Pardy. He seemed pleased with his play following the game, although he was obviously not happy about the final outcome.

TSN: No comeback as Jets fall to Predators. When the Jets narrowed the Nashville lead to two goals, you never really got the sense that this team was going to be able to storm back to tie the game.

IceCaps news:

The Telegram: IceCaps tame Bears. Unlike their NHL counterpart, the Jets farm club had no trouble scoring some goals in their win over Hershey.

- Via Tim Wharnsby of CBC: #NHLJets propect Scott Kosmachuk named #OHL player of week. The Guelph Storm RW scored 6 goals & 9 pts in 3 games.

- From Ken Wiebe of Winnipeg Sun: #NHLJets prospect Nic Petan was the #WHL player of the week after putting up 2G, 7P and a +6 rating for the Portland Winterhawks.
Nic-Petan-at-Development-Camp-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Free Press: Coach still sorting out lines. Coach Noel was fired up during and following practice as he tinkers with his lines and tries to get the best out of his squad.

Winnipeg Sun: Noel wants more effort. He was a quote machine today during the post-practice scrum.

Illegal Curve: Coach Noel presser. Meeting day? Find anything out? (Quote 1). Injury update (Slater is more day to day more like a week, Bogosian is maintenance, Stuart is hopeful). Has he spoken to Tangradi about what he needs to do and would he share? (Not surprisingly he said no). Drilling puck possession in at practice. Challenge to find right combo of 3? (Quote 2). Needing top players to be top players (Quote 3). Concerned about players who are ‘down’(Quote 4). Is someone in the room able to hold other players accountable? (Quote 5). (Note: Quotes can be found in above post).

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Called to the office. Asking for accountability from his players is what coach Noel feels is necessary at this point to get the team playing like a team. Only nine games into the season, is it too soon to be hitting the panic button?

Winnipeg Free Press: Coach practices patience. Some will say the culture in the room needs to change while others point to coach Noel’s system as the problem. There are thousands of theories being expressed on a daily basis as to what needs to be done to change the Jets fortunes around.

Winnipeg Free Press: Hardy Pardy giving it his all. It is difficult to shed the journeyman title once it has been applied.

Winnipeg Sun: Setoguchi regains prominent role in Winnipeg Jets offence. An unexpected early seat in the press box was clearly a message by coach Noel that he wants to see some additional effort from Setoguchi’s game.
Setoguchi-in-warm-up-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Coach Claude Noel starting to feel the heat. It cannot always be sunshine and lollipops. This fanbase, the organization wants success. While they all preach an understanding of building with a long term vision, the reality is everyone wants to see wins and wants to see those wins now, not in the future.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets have not forgotten what Caps did to them last season. Who can forget those back to back games when the Jets had a fairly sizable lead in the Southeast. The Jets could have stepped on the Caps throat but instead they allowed them to eliminate a huge gap and breathed life back into a Washington club that had been struggling to that point in the season.

Illegal Curve: Coach Noel scrum. (Quote 5).

Jets opposition (Washington Capitals) news:

Washington Post: Happy for change of scenery on verge of long road trip. You could easily replace the team Washington Capitals with Winnipeg Jets and the article would apply. Both teams were hoping home cooking would be of benefit and both haven’t seen those results manifest.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets have ‘to do a better job of helping each other and helping themselves’. You cannot look to other team’s for help in this league because while you may occasionally receive a gift, ,more often than not this approach is going to leave you on the losing end of a score sheet.

Winnipeg Sun: Capitals at Jets gameday. The boys over at the Sun bring you a lot of content from the skate and set up tonight’s action between these two former Southeast division rivals.

TSN: In a battle of old foes, Jets welcome Capitals. Will the Jets use the motivation of those back to back losses to the Caps last season as motivation or should simply the desire and need to put two points on the board be sufficient?

CBC: 5 Things to watch. Jeff looks at the need for the Jets to protect the house, Capital punishment, Ovi and company, coach Noel on the hot seat and where does the blame lie?
Ovechkin-goal-300x200.jpg

Illegal Curve: Coach Noel presser. What he expects from the Capitals. What does he expect from his team? Helping players break cycle. Keeping out of the penalty box, not giving Capitals PP opportunities. Injury update (Stuart remains day to day, Thorburn’s progress). Will Tangradi be a player? (Funny response). Power play outage.

Note: Tune into NHL Mid-Week from 6-8 PM tonight on TSN 1290 Winnipeg as the guys break down all the latest news from around the NHL. Guest: Jarmo Kekalainen (Columbus GM).

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets studied for wrong exam. The run and gun Eastern Conference made a brief reappearance last night at the MTS Centre. The Jets had a ton of chances to score which is something coach Noel had to be happy with. The back check was a lot better yesterday as well. Still some work to be done but a step in the right direction.

Winnipeg Free Press: Scheifele’s star shining. He himself will admit that there are still thing he has to work on but there is no question that he is starting to look more and more like an everyday NHL centre.

Winnipeg Free Press: New combo sparks offence. Some speed with some vision was enough to get the Jets offence going last night.
Wheeler-Kane-and-Scheifele-line-300x163.jpg

Winnipeg Free Press: Thorburn says he’s ‘close’ to return. It was already a lighter mood in the dressing room when the gregarious Thorburn took his turn to answer questions from the media.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets fall 5-4. Ken with a great breakdown of the loss, with an interesting breakdown of each goal scored against Pavelec.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets find positives in shootout loss to Capitals. Sometimes it is important to look at things with a glass half full attitude.

CBC: Ladd stands out in loss to Caps. There was no question that we saw a more physically engaged Jets captain and I thought it was particularly telling when he scored that shootout goal to give the Jets a brief lead. He certainly let his action do the talking.

TSN: Jets get edged by Caps in wide-open shootout. Dennis breaks down some of the action from his vantage point.

Illegal Curve: Light goes out on Shaw Customers during Jets Game. Fans at home missed OT and took to social media to complain.

Illegal Curve: Winnipeg Jets donate $50,000.00 for #Hockeyfightscancer. The Jets held a really nice pre-game ceremony where they brought our four young survivors of cancer and presented Cancer Care Manitoba with a cheque for $50,000.00. We have some pictures and the press release in this post.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Get ready to face new rivals on the road. Should be a good test as they match-up with Nasvhille, Dallas, Colorado and St. Louis over the next six days.

Winnipeg Sun: Looking to become road warriors. When I think road warriors I don’t know about you but I think of â€Hawk†and “Animal†from the old WWF. Perhaps the Jets can channel some of that inner fighting spirit as they prepare to do battle with some central division opponents.

CBC: In the Room – Michael Frolik. Speaks with CBC’s Mitch Peacock about his longtime friendship with goalie Ondrej Pavelec.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Weary of critics, Jets head out on road. Time to head out on the highway and remove themselves from the fishbowl for a four game in six days road trip. Time to get out on the road, bond with the team mates and take their on-ice game to another level.

Winnipeg Free Press: Welcome to the Neighborhood. May as well say Welcome to the Jungle because as the Jets have already discovered this is not an easy place to play.

Winnipeg Sun: Can Jets change their tune starting in Music City? Things won’t be easy as the Jets get back to playing some central division hockey after Tuesday’s run and gun style.

Winnipeg Sun: Looking to become road warriors. If the Jets want to be a playoff team, then a strong road trip is exactly what they need to start trending upwards and back on the playoff track. How much will we see of the Big Cubano?

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets, Bombers worlds apart. It is hard to be positive when your team (either CFL or NHL) is losing. Even if you take a glass half full approach and expect the Jets to be the team more likely to quickly turn things around, it may not happen in quite as quick a timeline as fans would like.

Winnipeg Free Press: Peluso’s first NHL goal a true work of art. It was a nice wrap around goal. Good sense and effort by Peluso. Not exactly a deke through five players however, so work of art may be a tad extreme.

Winnipeg Free Press: One lousy point no good. It is one thing to do so against a team in another conference (Hello Washington) but giving up points to divisional opponents can certainly come back to bite you late in the season.

Winnipeg Sun: Pavelec frustrated after Jets drop another. The #1 netminder wasn’t a happy camper following the OT loss to their central division rival. The collective effort is going to need to drastically improve if this team has any hope of making noise in the West. Unfortunately there is no simple solution to the problem.
Frustrated-Pavelec-300x167.jpg

TSN: Jets settle for point in OT loss to Predators. Dennis assess the game from his eye in the sky perch.

Winnipeg Sun: Super Scheif. This article and the one below were afternoon articles that I missed. He still has a lot of development, and while the NHL isn’t sometimes the best place to learn on the job, the 2011 1st round draft pick is doing his best to get up to speed.

Winnipeg Sun: Pavelec is not the problem. He appears to be the most polarizing figure on this team. Either you love what he can do and his acrobatic saves or you think he is a sub-par goalie who is required to make those acrobatic saves because he is constantly out of position. There just doesn’t seem to be a middle ground.

Jets on a Deadline – Predators 3 Jets 2 in OT:

Coach Noel post-game - Assessment of the game. Point gained or point lost?

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Prospects are good. The Freep is taking a look at the Jets prospect system and first up in their examination is Scott Kosmachuk.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets in dire need of ‘poetic justice’. Would be nice to see some of those favourable bounces go in the Jets favour, especially late in the game.

Winnipeg Sun: Live Blog – Jets vs. Stars. Join Ted from Dallas he gets the Jets’ game-day scoop. Then, at 5:30 p.m., the rest of the Winnipeg Sun sports team joins in for a live blog.

Winnipeg Sun: Peluso’s first goal draws praise from Jets teammates. While you can appreciate the heads up play, it was certainly no Picaso. Ted also covers the Jets fast start, the lapses and some injury news.
Peluso-shot-wm-300x175.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Little to be happy about in Predators loss. Perhaps it is time for this team to take a glass half empty approach. It wasn’t a point gained so much as one lost.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets get out of town fast. The Jets have taken 3 out of 4 road points so far and it will be important to continue those winning ways by picking up a critical couple of points in the back end of the back to back.

Winnipeg Free Press: Pavelec lone star in Texas. He was simply sensational last night.
Ondrej-Pavelec-v2-300x186.jpg

Winnipeg Free Press: Confidence slowly building on the road. The play on the ice has been pretty good through two games but maintaining consistency will be critical for this squad.

Winnipeg Free Press: Peluso takes Olli’s odd advice after first goal. Who says superstitions aren’t still alive and well in the year 2013.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets down Stars in shootout . Who said this team cannot win a shootout? They looked quite good last night, especially the captain Andrew Ladd who is now 3 for 3 on the season.

Winnipeg Sun: Come up big in the big D. The time for chatter was over and the Jets showed that they could finally put out an effort on the ice that matched the talk in the dressing room.

Illegal Curve: Coach Noel post-game. Assessment of the game. Resiliency of his team. The play of Ondrej Pavelec. Importance of the extra point. Energized squad. Anyone in particular stand out?

Jets next opponent (Colorado Avalanche) news:

Denver Post: Avalanche exceeding expectations by far. Datar breaks down how Colorado has made it to 9 and 1 ten games into this season.

Denver Post: Matt Duchene loves fast-pace system and personal style of Patrick Roy. If you want a couple of the answers to the above question they are right here in the title of this article.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Power play? What power play? There has been a power outage since the Dallas game. Coach Noel wasn’t very happy with the lack of success last night, directly attributing it for the loss.

Winnipeg Sun: Again with the power play problems? If you cannot take advantage of having an extra man in games you can bet you are going to be missing out on quite a few W’s.
Jets-Power-Play-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Time to shuffle Scheifele? Ken makes a good point. You know that when you’ve committed to the 20 year old as your #2 centre, there are going to be some accompanying growing pains.

Jets on a Deadline – Avalanche 3 Jets 2:

Coach Claude Noel post-game. Coach Noel met with the media following the game against Colorado.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Chevy says. The Jets GM joined Gary and Hustler to discuss the stats of his team and topics included the team’s start, development of Mark Scheifele, inconsistency of the squad, the power play as well as the team’s battle level.

Winnipeg Free Press: Power play a gunfight and the Jets bringing knives. We shall see if the Jets learned anything at yesterday’s practice which spent quite some time looking at the anemic PP. The good news is the Blues are ranked 21st (78.4%) in the league in PK, so the Jets should be able to actually use the man advantage to their benefit.

Winnipeg Sun: Finish all that matters for Jets’ Setoguchi. Ted covers the lack of finish, the play of Al Montoya and thoughts on Mark Scheifele.
Montoya-Setoguchi-at-practice-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Jets keep shooting themselves in foot. The team has been consistently inconsistent which is causing all the joy to go out of coach Noel’s joyland. Can the guys can put together a consistent, 60 minute effort in which they follow the game plan set out by the bench boss?

Illegal Curve: Coach Noel post-practice audio. Update on his players. What makes it a successful practice? Trying something new on the power play? More power play talk.

Illegal Curve: Paul Postma audio. Discussing the news about his blood clot.

AHL St. John's IceCaps news:

The Telegram: IceCaps keep playing catch-up. It is never a good idea to spot your opponent a couple of goals before you start to play yourself.

Jets next opponent (St. Louis Blues) news:

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Stewart returns to practice; Paajarvi is day to day. Always be sure to read the latest from Jeremy who has his finger on the pulse of the Blues.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Steen plays down early scoring success. Winnipeg’s own is having quite the start to the season.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets hoping to end road trip on positive note with win over Blues. You probably should always be wary when coach Hitchcock is looking to avenge a loss.

Winnipeg Sun: St. Louis Blues looking to avenge loss to Jets. Lots of talk about Winnipegger Alexander Steen as he continues to tear up the NHL. Jets fans will remember the two goals he had in Winnipeg back on October 18th.
Steen-300x200.jpg

Illegal Curve: Coach Noel presser. Why did Chiarot get the call up? Injury update. Finishing off the road trip with a good result. Leaving it all out on the ice with a break until Saturday.

Illegal Curve: Game set-up. Ez sets up tonight’s action between Jets and Blues.

Illegal Curve: Morning Papers. If you missed any of the news this AM we have you covered.

Jets next opponent (St. Louis Blues) news:

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Blues hope to apply lesson vs. Jets. This won’t be the same weary club Winnipeg faced last time at the MTS Centre. Jets fans should expect a heavy game from St. Louis.

Jets news:

CBC: 30 Thoughts by Elliotte Friedman. Points 7 (re;Jets scouts at a Sabres game) & 10 (Coach Noel's stress).

Winnipeg Free Press: Road-weary Jets succumb to Blues' power play. Last night’s loss is going to haunt this team. The team is going to have to hope this missed opportunity doesn't come back to bite the Jets similar to the back-to-back home losses to Washington did last season.

Winnipeg Free Press: Call-up Chiarot beaten to punch. News travels quickly.

Winnipeg Sun: Finding new ways to lose. Coach Noel used an appropriate word last night saying the loss was ‘disheartening’ and considering how they lost last night it perfectly sums up the game specifically and the road trip in general.

Winnipeg Sun: Chiarot gets call. Hard work down on the farm gets rewarded with a call-up by the parent club. Not rocket science and good on Chiarot for taking the advice to heart at the start of the season in St. John’s.
Chiarot-looks-on-at-Development-Camp-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Jets take in World Series Game 5. Sometimes you forget that professional athletes can also be fans of other sports and Monday was a perfect day to be a sports fan in St. Louis.

Note: Happy Halloween from the IC Crew to you. Big thanks to Dov Secter, who isn’t just a great architect, but also a pretty good pumpkin carver.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: A look under the hood. Ed reflects on the road trip and looks ahead as well. Covers power-play, face-off circle, offensive help, PK, Wheeler & Little heating up, Bogo injury?, Lowry up?, more starts for Montoya, Scheifele down, Trouba need and a final assessment.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ good, bad & ugly. While the end results were not ideal, the Jets played pretty well during the four game in six night road trip. He takes a look at the good, bad and ugly of the road adventures.

Winnipeg Sun: Power-play icebreaker just what the Jets ordered. While it was nice to see the team get a special teams goal, it is still important to realize that was on a 5 on 3. The Jets remain1/31 with the man ‘advantage’ and the streak won’t quite be broken until the guys can score 5 on 4. Ted also looks at the play of Devin Setoguchi who has to go back to junior hockey to recall last time he was on the point.

CBC: 30 Thoughts by Elliotte Friedman. For anyone who missed this late addition to yesterday’s Jets news, Friedman covered a couple of points about Jets in his popular column, including #7 (re;Jets scouts at a Sabres game) & #10 (Coach Noel’s stress).

Illegal Curve: Enstrom turns down chance to play for Sweden at Olympics. Interesting to read reports that the dynamic defenceman would prefer to stay and focus on his commitment to the Jets.

St. John’s IceCaps news:

The Telegram: Redmond isn’t ready to go, Chiarot is gone as IceCaps prepare to face Pirates. With all the injuries to the Jets defensive core, the ranks are rather thin on the Rock.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: The Jets are a frustrated bunch after a less-than-satisfying start to the season. Fans would have quite a bit to worry about if this team was content with being below .500 and out of the playoffs.

Winnipeg Free Press: Crunching the numbers. Tim compares the numbers from this season to last to take a look at where the Jets have improved/regressed.
Frolik-300x162.jpg

CBC: Enstrom bows out of Olympics to focus on playoff push. There was quite a bit of speculation about his reasons before he addressed this with the media on Thursday. You can listen to his full audio comments here.

Illegal Curve: Coach Noel audio. Mark Stuart injury update. Jacob Trouba sightings. Jim Slater update (not day to day). Ben Chairot’s recall. Peluso & Thorburn talk. Assessment of his team. Dealing with frustration. Finding solutions is fun part of coaching. What has he seen from Enstrom? Thoughts on Enstrom’s decision to not play in Olympics. Talk about Blake Wheeler. (Some great quotes transcribed in the post).

Illegal Curve: Players audio post-practice. Hear from Blake Wheeler, Bryan Little, Devin Setoguchi, Tobias Enstrom and Ben Chairot.

IceCaps news:

The Telegram: Klingberg, Pasquale lead IceCaps over Pirates. Good to see Klingberg putting up some points early on in the season.

Opponent (Blackhawks) news:

Winnipeg Sun: Captain Serious Jonathan Toews is seriously pumped about return to Winnipeg. This game was voted the most anticipated game in our pre-season poll and there is hardly any question as to why that is. Tracy Myers of CSN had a great quote from Patrick Sharp about the importance of this game to the Hawks captain “Keith, myself and Toews were all born in Winnipeg. Somehow, I think Duncs and I will be overshadowed.â€

ESPN Chicago: Khabibulin: I have to do better. Many fans of the Jets 1.0 fondly remember the Bulin wall for his impressive performances for the Jets back in the early 90's. While he is certainly not the goalie he was back then, impressive nonetheless that he continues to play in the NHL all these years later.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets will have hands full against Blackhawks. When the defending Stanley Cup champs come to town it certainly is never going to be a light game. The Jets are going to have to use every cliche in the book (play a 200 foot game, a full 60 minutes, etc etc) to pull off two points against this Hawks lineup.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets ready to host defending champion Blackhawks. It will be quite the contest as three former members of the Blackhawks are currently playing on the Jets and three members of the Hawks were born in Winnipeg.

Illegal Curve: Coach Noel presser. Assessment of the Hawks. What does having success on the PP do for the team? High number of penalties taken. Execution in practice. Injury update on Stuart (Won’t be a player tomorrow). Is Peluso hurt? Ben Chiarot talk. Is Trouba working out? New challenges for him as a coach? What stage is this team at? Facing better teams keeping team on their toes.

Illegal Curve: Player audio from MTS Centre. After practice audio from three former Hawks in Ladd, Byfuglien and Frolik.

Illegal Curve: Morning Papers. If you missed any of the news this AM we have you covered.

Next opponent (Hawks) news:

ESPN Chicago: Crawford reflects on Hawks’ play (video). Goalie Corey Crawford reflects on the team’s play in October and looks forward to a busy month of traveling in November.

CSN Chicago: A warm welcoming awaits Toews. Just like Teemu had the first Ducks game circled on his calendar, you can bet Winnipegger Jonathan Toews marked off the first opportunity he will have to play here in a regular season game.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Hawks plain dangerous. When you are the Cup champs it doesn’t really matter if the two teams have a playing history, everyone is aware of the danger your team presents.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets have knack of making things hard for themselves. The Jets are going to have to improve their discipline if they want to win these games. You cannot give good teams multiple man advantages if you want to earn two points.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets-Hawks lineups. Some news you can use in advance of today’s afternoon contest.

Winnipeg Sun: Wheeler heats up after early slump. You can definitely tell that Wheeler is self-aware about his play and is able to critique himself when he knows his game isn’t up to his standard. The good news for Jets fans is that slow start appears to be in the rear-view mirror as he has four goals in his last five games.
Wheeler6-wm-300x135.jpg

Winnipeg Sun: Stuart injury means Jets debut for Chiarot. Well at least there won’t be too much pressure going up against the defending Stanley Cup champs in his first NHL game, compounded by the fact that the game will be featured on Hockey Night in Canada. Should be quite a memorable debut for the 2010 fourth round pick.

Winnipeg Sun: Plenty of motivation as Jets take on Blackhawks. Whether its because you want to play against the defending champs as a measuring stick or because they are your former squad, there are going to need to be a lot of ‘A’ games brought to the MTS Centre if the Jets have a hope of beating Chicago.

IceCaps news:

TSN: IceCaps grab early lead, hold on to beat Pirates. Nice return to action for Zach Redmond as he finished with one goal, one assist and had six shots on net as St. John’s has now won back to back games over Portland.

Opposition (Blackhawks) news:

ESPN: Jonathan Toews returns to his hockey roots. Should be quite the welcome for one of the most popular athletes in our province.

CSN Chicago: PK moving on from Frolik departure. The Hawks have gone from 1st to worst on the PK and you can’t help but think that a big part of that reason is current wearing a Jets sweater on a nightly basis.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Welcome to the NHL, kid. The trial by fire for Chiarot was significant as he learned what happens when you tangle with some of the best players in the NHL. When asked he said it took him until the 2nd period before he truly got into a rhythm of the game.

Winnipeg Free Press: Big saves not there. In the below instance the save was made but the game was already out of hand. Pavelec, to his credit, faced the music following the game and stood in with the press and took responsibility for his inability to make the key saves when they needed him.
Montoya-on-Toews-300x200.jpg

Winnipeg Free Press: Afterburner. Some notable game occurrences including free giveaways, good vocals, hometown proud, getting loud and next up.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets don’t measure up to Hawks. Well that isn’t quite true. For close to 21 minutes it was pretty even, but then the floodgates opened and we learned what happens during a full 60 minute game.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets claim Keaton Ellerby off waivers. With a banged up D-core this move shores up the back end a bit and hopefully means the team won’t have to rush any of the young players from the AHL.
