If you look at the game flow on the NHL.com app, Panthers won the first, but definitely got outplayed in the second and third.

This track shot on goal / 60 minutes, being marked every 30 seconds.

It's called the NHL and happens to every team.

I'm not talking about what happens to the Bruins or Golden Knights once in a blue moon. This is the Florida Panthers, who have a history of being poor defensively since 2016. We have a ways to go to prove we can hang with the big boys in big games, playoff games.

You guys think Driedger gets the start tomorrow?
Yes. It was an all-around good win for the most part last night. He earns another start on Wednesday.

Exactly like Thursday against Tampa. It was a good win all around for the most part, Bob deserved the start the next game.

Some very interesting stats. So the HDCA we give up are higher danger. Do all goals count as HDCA, or are there stats for goals from non-HDCA?
No, goals can be from medium or low danger chances too (chances are distinguished by where the shot came from). We're 25th in all scoring chances against (= 7th best, coincidentally only behind Dallas from our division).

The team defense has been a lot better, yes. They can go through stretches in a game where they play really well defensively, but they still have to learn how to be consistent and bring that structure for 60 minutes. Did Tampa not almost score 3 goals in 2 minutes against us last night? Did we not almost totally collapse late in the 2nd and throw away a 5-2 lead? That's not good defense. They are still learning how to be a good defensive team and I acknowledge that. Much improved from last season. Still a problem though.
The Panthers did get careless for a bit when they had scored four goals in the period, which is definitely not ok. To some degree it is a strategy to be aggressive in order to sustain pressure and spend more time in the OZ, which comes with a risk of odd-man rushes against (like when Ekblad got stuck in the OZ and Tampa scored on the 2-on-1). That is probably a good mindset for this team and allows us to score six goals on Tampa, but it would be good to read some situations better (especially Ekblad, who loves to blitz and leave his partner hanging). The third period was pretty encouraging though. Tampa had a lot of possession and shots, but the Panthers didn't panic.

So goals on low danger chances should equal poor goaltending? How do we look there?

I agree, they need to iron out some kinks, but it is definitely trending in the right direction.

Well, every goalie gives up goals on all sorts of chances; it's more like there are different "acceptable save%" for different chances.
It changes slightly from year to year; at HD, something like 84% is good; for MD, you want 93%, at LD, you should expect ca 98%.
Long story short, Driedger's looking excellent on all three (top10 or better; actually best NHL goalie on LD SVS% over the past two seasons). Bob was decent in HD SVS% last year ("makes the high reel saves), terrible on the other two; this year he's one of the worst goalies in all three stats.
(It's also noteworthy and concerning that Bob's numbers have been in steady decline since at least 2016/17 - didn't look further in the past).
