The Florida Panthers are looking to acquire a a good third line winger after losing out in the Shawn Bates and Ian Lapierriere sweepstakes.

In return the Panthers are willing to part with one of their better "third line" prospects such as Matt Foy, Dwight Helminen, Geoff Paukovich, etc + a 3rd round draft pick in the 2007 draft.

If anyone has someone like that they would explore dealing, you can contact me at my email [email protected]

Panthers Announce Trade

The Florida Panthers held a press conference this morning to announce the acquisition of forward Scott Mellanby from the Philadelphia Flyers. The 40 year old Mellanby scored 23 goals and added 25 assists for the Flyers last year and has one year remaining on a 1.5 million dollar contract.

This is technically the second time the Panthers have acquired Mellanby, after last year's trade deadline deal was nullified due to fax machine mishaps. The Panthers have confirmed to be sending prospect Geoff Paukovich and 3rd and 5th round picks to the Flyers.

"Well we wanted Scott last year at the deadline because we felt he fit into the line up very well. But now we feel he's going to be an even better fit as we plan to line up him up with Mike Richards and Fernando Pisani on the third line. We expect him to play a serious leadership role this coming season and to help a lot of the young kids, especially linemate Richards," said GM Otten.

This move, as Otten hinted, solidifies the Panthers top 3 forward lines for the upcoming HFNHL season. The first line is expected to be Pierre Turgeon between John Leclair and Shane Doan. The second line is expected to be Steven Reinprecht lined up between Raffi Torres and Marek Svatos, with the affermentioned third line of Pisani, Mellanby and Richards. This would appear to give the Panthers three very solid lines capable of scoring goals.
