From Friedman:
Since that was published, a few people reached out to indicate that they think Panarin is getting $12.5M or close to it, wherever he goes. The Rangers are not inclined to get there, but multiple sources indicated Colorado offered it, albeit on a shorter term. Crazy times.

Putting this here so we don't have to hear people say "if the only offered Panarin the max term he would have been here"

Friedman: 12.5 for an unknown term
Dater: 11.7 for 6 years

These aren't really close.

Yeah it is pretty clear they were willing to go higher on AAV over shorter term, but lowered the AAV for longer. If 11.7 was their 6 yr offer. What was their 7yr? 11M?

Then dudes offered 7yrs/12.5M

Panarin wasn't ever going to choose us over Long Island, someone on Sportsnet mentioned that his wife or girlfriend chose them even over Florida. Also, I am glad that Sakic wasn't throwing us the fans a bone and saying "we tried better luck next year" and kept actively pursuing him. I have no ill towards him, but there is also a part of me which hopes he never wins anything as a Ranger for denying us.
