Average team points per division:
1) Atlantic - 36.88
2) Central - 34.29
3) Pacific - 34. 25
4) Metro - 31.50

3rd place. I guess that's what people now days call "power".

Of the 5 Pacific teams contending for a playoff spots only Anaheim has a losing record against the central, the gap is not as big as people thinks

I said 3 weeks ago lets wait for the schedule to even out as most of the central had played a lot of home games and most of the pacific were on the road to start the season.

Sure enough the power has evened out

Maybe Mcllelan really was holding them back. There are new coach bounces sometimes though. If Oil make playoffs that is a big turnaround.
McLellan certainly was holding them back, people forget McLellan was the Sharks coach during the 08-09 playoffs when they the Presidents Trophy Sharks got knocked out by the 8th seed Ducks.

Aurora, On.
At the start of the season it was pretty easy to predict 5 teams from the Metro and Central and 3 from the Atlantic and Pacific division.
Then, they actually play the games and we see what happens.

Looking like there could be 4 from each division at this point.

Honestly, I think the entire Western Conference is in a bit of a limbo right now where there are only one or two true great teams. But a bunch of former greats are on the down turn and a bunch of young teams are pushing to reach Cup contender status.

I think Calgary is a great team, but I imk they're riding a hot streak at the moment which should cool off in the new year.

The Ducks and Sharks are above average, but neither of them have shown the level of dominance yet this season to warrant being labelled Cup contenders.

Vegas down to LA in the standings are just mediocre teams. Period.

No I did not.

So if you want to take games into consideration:
1) Atlantic has average rate of 1.184 points per game
2) Central - 1.117 ppg
3) Pacific - 1.074 ppg
4)Metro - 0.930 ppg (edit: it is actually 1.063)

So basically, aside from the past two weeks or so, the division is not very strong at all.

Are you deliberately trying to make the Metro seem worse than it is? How do you get 0,930 ppg? the only teams with less points than games are Flyers -1 and Devils -3. Caps alone are +9 so how you get the average to be under ppg is weird(seems like you have switched the points and games in your calculations). The Metro teams have 252 points in 237 games which means they are 1,063 ppg.

I think if you go by average points, well Tampa, Toronto, Nashville, Winnipeg and Colorado are among the best teams. Calgary is in there too.

The Kings dragging the bottom towards Hughes are a factor too.

In the middle of the pack there are some teams getting hot, a lot from the PAC. But there's a long way to go. I think the consensus is that the Metro is the dog's breakfast outside of the Caps.

and a Pacific Team will draft Jack Hughes. We are winning even when not winning.
Its just a question if Hughes will be a King, Coyote(They lost Raanta for the season so they'll be competing for Hughes eventually) or Canucks who i expect to fall to 3rd or 4th worst in the NHL by seasons end. The problem i see in the Hughes race is that Chicago & St. Louis may get aggressive in tanking by the time of the deadline.

Whats weird is that next season both St. Louis & LA should be in the playoffs but will both be having lottery picks in 2019. Hughes could get a taste of the playoffs in his rookie year.

You right it is 1.063. It is still 4th place anyway. But you are wrong by suggesting some anti-Metro agenda. I posted figures that anyone can check it.

11 days ago Pacific was last. No Atlantic team is under .500 (Bettman .500)
So yes. It were two good weeks. But Atlantic is the strongest division so far.
