When a guys moving the puck up ice he's going to turn it over sometimes, that's the nature of the game

People get on Gardiner's ass because he makes mistakes, I would point out that he's the one passing the puck out of his own zone, he doesn't flip the puck to center or wring it around the boards every play

That's a good thing
Again I'm not complaining about that as I agree, mistakes happen, but lazily skating back for the puck consistently is not a brain fart, it can be fixed with just skating hard back for the puck.
That is the only thing that drives me nuts with jake

But that's why Polak ices the puck too :naughty:
Let your hair down kiwi. Enjoy the polak

My only joy in the world is the thought that Polak may be gone for good after this season

Who am I kidding? Knowing my luck he'll still be with the Leafs after I'm dead and buried

It's forgotten the number of incident-free, easy defensive zone exits and transitions to offense that Gardiner delivers throughout the season. If there's a stat to track such a thing, doubtless that Gardiner would be the team leader of that by a large margin.

His usage probably needs to be adjusted to shelter him more from unfavourable matchups but let's get real: he's a tremendously useful talent and if he were available tomorrow 30 teams would kick tires.

Even a vocal Polak critic like me had to admit he played pretty well down the stretch and into the playoffs, Babcock adores him to and he's got plenty of sway

No he'll be icing the puck for the Leafs next season to unfortunately

That's a pity "like" Salt

You might be happy but I'll have to cry myself to sleep
Since you're in the Southern Hemisphere your frown is upside down and looks like a smile from up here haha
No pity just giving kudos for acknowledging a good year for a player you hate

Polak's probably gone if they can get someone to play top 4 RD so Hainsey can do the Polak bottom pair PK specialist role

If not Polak is probably coming back and I can start gouging my eyes out
I'm thinking if borgman impresses at camp or ozhi has a good camp polak would be signed at the #7 that way which ever of the new guys don't make the cut we can send them to the Marlies.
Option 2 neither are good enough and polak makes the top 6.
option 3 as you state we get a top 4 ufa which pushes Hainsey down and polak out

I'm expecting very little out of Ozhiganov after his current season in the KHL and after watching the Marlies I'm getting slightly concerned about Borgman as well, he hasn't bossed games like I thought he would after he was sent down, if anything I think he's going backwards

I think Polak is going to sit in the PB so a kid doesn't have to and Babcock finds a way to get him onto the team if there's an injury or someone struggles, that seems to be how things work when it comes to Polak

Borgman seemed to hit a bump but I'm thinking it's a conditioning thing as the shl season is shorter and it took Johnsson a few season to adjust to that too.
As for Oz, only seeing him on NA ice will answer the questions we have.

Borgman seems to be getting a bit beat up now to, shutting him down for a couple of months and giving him some recovery time wouldn't be a bad idea, try to reset him for next season

It's a bad sign if a guy struggles like Ozhiganov has this year, about the only thing going for him is maybe the fact that because he was leaving his coach in the KHL decided to screw him over

I'm thinking general fatigue is also lending to borgman having a sudden rash of injuries too.
Oz regardless of any factors will be a small ice transition judgment call for me. Everything can change when he's on the smaller ice so I'm willing to wait to see what happens when he's here and go from there.

Not sure if this has been brought up but it looks like Toronto has reached an agreement,

Chris Johnson of Sportsnet has an update on a rumor we have been tracking closely.

Johnson says "The Leafs have reached terms with six-foot-two righty Igor Ozighanov out of CSKA Moscow – unnamed sources say that deal is done" and Igor is Toronto bound in the fall of 2018.
Update: Rumor/Video: Russian Defensemen To The Maple Leafs - Everything You Need to Know

I have no idea how true this is or if a joke. It was posted April 30th

I think him not being signed before the season started lit a bit of a fire under his arse. I thought he was close to 40 years old or something, only to find out he's 31. Guess he realized he has to put in a hell of a lot of effort now, or he'll be out of a job, at least in north america.

I think someone will take another chance on him, he's limited but useful in the right situation

Thing is, he was better this season, than he has been in the past 3. He was honestly one of our better d-men in the playoffs. I wouldn't slot him on the top pair, but he played far better than a $1.1m d-man usually does.

Okay, it would be reasonable to assume he is available ... teams that are rebuilding are always looking to improve the team.

What are you going to offer the Leafs for Gardiner? 1st., player and prospect?

However, let's hope Ozhiganov wasn't played because he's rumoured to be going to the Leafs and not because Marchenko was that much better than he was.

Pretty much, he's a useful depth player in the right situation
