That analogy has been made before for good reason . . . AO has the same sort of hype (to a lesser extent though as hockey does not = basketball in popularity) built up over time, and a second player stepped up the last year and made the respective leagues take notice. I suspect that similarly no matter the numbers and even if both have similar careers Malkin will never be the golden boy or draw, nor will Carmello. Which is why the Caps would be stupid to trade the pick or to take anyone but AO.

While both Ovechkin and Malkin could have a solid impact in their first year... neither will post the kind of points and stats that 'Bron and Mello put up in their respective leagues. Carmello led his team to the playoffs. There's next to no chance of Ovechkin putting the Capitals on his back alone and getting to the playoffs. (Anthony didn't either, but he also had a better cast) Lebron also revitalized a whole team, a town, and much of the Eastern Conference.

No chance that happens. It is hockey after all.

I agree, Bron is one of the best rookies to hit any sport in years. The guy put up major points and also led the team to the playoffs. Ovechkin might put on a few dazzling goals but nothing too extraordinary in his rookie season because there will be 6 guys trying to shut him (/linemates) down.
