Probably 2nd or 3rd right now, a few more seasons of being top 1-10 in goals should help push the narrative on Ovi's length of dominance.

It'll be really hard to compare, since Howe played most of his career with only 6 teams and way less overall talent in the league.

Your grandchildren will be making the same argument against OV.

Hull spent more time at higher level than OV did and has a better playoff resume. I don't see OV ever passing him to get to #2. Will probably end up just behind Richard.

Who is 2nd all time in points? Thats right not Gordie Howe. Get out with your Canada bias.

Bias? Howe is universally considered as top-4 player all-time. It's not Canadian bias. You're showing how little you understand about NHL.

No they won't. There won't be 60 teams with the talent gap of the 1950s vs. the 2000s/2010s. More talent, maybe. But there won't be the gap between now and the 50s.

It was to point out that this a meaningless argument. Performance vs. peers is the only way to compare players in a historical sense with some reasonable consideration for statistical differences in comparing a six team league to a 30 team league.

It is, for lack of better term, stupid to simply say the current players > players from the past.

People still have Hull over Ovi simply because he's Canadian LMFAO

No, Hull was the better player. Had more higher end seasons than OV and was the better playoff performer.

I am assuming you will now play the "can't compare players from the dark ages to today" card.

Only Howe and Jagr are above him, he's long passed Richard. It's only a matter of time.

I'll be damned if there are 150 teams (5 x 30) in 40 years, with a similar increase in the total amount of youth hockey players being fed into the NHL.

What about the late 60s? When Howe was 40 and still 3rd in scoring. Players at that level are always going to be great no matter the talent influx. His advantage over Ovechkin likely isn't as great as his scoring finishes suggest, but his actual advantage high enough that trying to adjust for a talent gap doesn't bridge it. I could see an argument for beating Hull based on eras but not Howe

3rd after Howe and Jagr. Quite clear to me and I doubt he will surpass either, in the case of Howe it's pretty much impossible, in the case of Jagr it's simply rather unlikely- a Smythe+Richard on top of what he have might do it, as could a dominating Ross but that's probably not in the cards. Then again Jagr is the second highest scoring player of all time points wise and got a higher peak.

Hull and Richard in order rounds out my top 5 but those two are honestly closer to the rest then to the 3 mentioned above for me.
