I personally think Laine’s better on the powerplay, he still has that elite one timer like OV but his wrist shot can beat goalies in a whole different way. Do you agree?

Alex Ovechkin is the best PP player in the league.

Patrik Laine is not the 2nd best.

I want to also exaggerate. I would of course take Laine who is million miles better shooter than Alex1985. All of Pates shots are way better than Alexis.

Well I mean Laine lead the league last season in PP goals and I think is leading again this season(?), that's what he is really elite at. Ovechkin lead the league 5 seasons in a row in PP goals before Laine took the lead in his 2nd season.

I guess people just want to undermine Laine or something.

Comparing him to the guy who led the league for 5 straight years and finished 2nd to him last year is undermining him?

It is when people think Ovechkin is "easily" better at PP despite the fact that Laine was the best last season, by 3 goals, which is pretty big gap.

And since this poll isnt really close either, it just proves my point that Laine is underrated in this 1 specific area.

I think Ovechkin still has better routine in that shot. He's literally scored hundreds of goals from that same spot. And i feel like he can sometimes get it off a bit quicker.

So Ovi slight edge still for me.

Ov is still the king not only on the pp but everything else. Laine is average at best at everything else.

OV is good. Laine is a balding floater. Give me the proven god on ice.

I like Laine's shot marginally more. If my team has other elite players to feed the triggerman I probably take Laine by a hair. If my teams PP is otherwise mediocre I take OV, who I believe can do more with less.

Laine Jets doesnt have so creative playmakers Kuznetzov and Bäckström are amazing playmakers propably league's best set up men on powerplay. Laine plays much less at powerplay too and Jets doesnt use him as shooter nearly as much Byfuglien shoots stupid shots and so on Wheeler is ok playmaker but without Laine 50-60 point player Scheifele is very good player but as playmaking goes not close to Kuznetsov/Bäckström.. I think if Laine would get same role/switch place's with Ovechkin he would have already scored 120+ goals now instead of 87 that he has now 80 goals in season wouldnt be unrealistic if given same conditions in prime/peak years to come.

Abstaining from voting in this, just noting that comparable period of these two states that:

    EV goals OV 92 - 87 Laine
    PP goals OV 38 - 35 Laine

when OV has played 5 more games (OV 175 vs Laine 169).

In both categories they hold 1st and 2nd spots from the start of the season 2016-17.

I'm highly biased in this vote, regardless of the fact they are my two most favorite players, thus abstaining to vote.

Well from the start of last season Laine has only 1 point less and 5 goals more on the powerplay and he's played significantly less (391 min for Ovechkin, 294 min for Laine). Voted Laine.

Laine scores last year 20 PP goals compared to 17 by Ovechkin
That's not the amazing part, the amazing part is that Laine played almost 100 minutes less on the PP yet scoring 3 more than Ovechkin.

Laine is clearly the better player on the PP

Love Laine, and it's cool that this even a discussion, but I would say Ovi. Who has the better shot is debatable, but Ovi just has more to offer overall

    16-17 to 18-19
    Ovechkin
    38 goals
    pp toi 696:20
time needed for a goal 18:19

    Laine
    35 goals
    pp toi 493:08
time needed for a goal 14:05

    16-17
    Ovechkin 17 goals
    Laine 9 goals

    17-18
    Laine 20 goals
    Ovechkin 17 goals

    18-19
    Laine 6 goals
    Ovechkin 4 goals

    There's a clear trend there.

Ovechkin is better in every aspect of the game so I'd take AO#8 easily.
