It's rare to see a GM fired mid-season. They usually make a GM change in the off-season.

Isn't Dean Lombardi part of that management group? I could see them appoint him, if at least on an interim basis.

Galchenyuk is exactly who I thought he was. He’s good on the PP and OT
He has 3 goal and 9 total points
2 of his goals and 5 of his points are on the pp
He’s useless when it’s 5 vs 5

Galch can’t skate, thats the bottom line. You can’t be an effective player today if you don’t have wheels. He has hasn’t improved his skating at all and somehow has gotten slower. Literally can’t keep up with the play, I think he is a 25g guy with 15 coming on the PP.

I don't think he's an awful skater...

But he's always gliding on the ice...always reactive, never pro-active...

He lacks quickness, his first few steps are brutal. Which makes him an awful skater in a back and forth league. He can’t win puck battles, create turnovers, cover his man in the d zone, etc. So his utility is getting the puck with space in the O zone. If he can’t improve his skating I don’t know where he goes from here, very hard to have a top 6 guy in this league that doesn’t kill penalties and you don’t trust to match up against other teams top lines in the d zone. Would be a coaching nightmare to manage his time, and for this reason I can’t see him sticking as a C. I think he ends up on the W fairly soon.

Is he already declining?
wouldn't say declining...

Whatever he's going through is part of the process for a young player developing in the NHL, but he's not progressing as quickly as his pedigree dictates he should be.

And he's certainly not playing at the "future Norris winner" level many here have assured us he will be.

Other teams fire GMs whenever it suits them, in Montreal the fans and media make every excuse for why a total failure of a GM shouldn't be fired yesterday.

It's midway through a season, you can't fire a coach now!

It's only been six years, you can't fire the GM!

But the team is on a hot streak, you can't fire him!!
Yes...because it's super ideal to have to find a new GM 1/4 way through the season.

Thats all you took from my post? I also mentioned taking tough assignments, draws in the d zone and mentioned how hard it would be to integrate a one dimensional player into the lineup.

Tochett seems to agree, AG gas played 13 mins twice in the last 5 games. Bottom 6 type minutes because it is hard to get a top 6 C minutes if he can’t take tough assignments and doesn’t kill penalties.

You may have missed it but the league is changing, most players are being asked to play both ends of the ice. There are very few specialist type player, in a league where most teams play a top 9 and roll 4 lines guys that can’t play in all situations are a hinderance.

Tampa is crushing the kid in defensive assignments and he is responding. Not too bad if you ask me. Oh, Sergachev is not crying about it either. Have you looked at the kids defensive stats? He is going to be a monster at 23...
I think you're trying real hard to prop up one player and tear down another.

But my perspective on this might be wrong.

Maybe with Schmaltz at center, Galchy could concentrate on his scoring on a wing ?
