Definitely. I'm surprised someone didn't take a flier on Shipachyov, and he had every right to be kind of upset at being sent to Chicago in the AHL a few weeks after a mass shooting with his wife all alone in Vegas.

Gallant is stuck in his ways and it paid off for him, he's kind of like Therrien with a fully functioning brain.

Wasn't he signed at something like 5M/yr? That would explain it.

So the Devils heh?

Hall-Hughes-Palmieri
Gusev-Hischier-Simmonds
Coleman-Zajac-Bratt
Zacha-McLoed-Woods

Vatanen-Subban
Smith-Severson
Butcher-Greene

If Schneider can regain form or Blackwood has it in him theyre going to be good.
Schneider started looking like himself again in the second part of last season. He was a top-5 goalie; if he gets back there I agree New Jersey could be next year's biggest surprise.

I really have no idea. I dont recall watching one single game of the Devils.

A 2nd and 3rd for one of the best KHL players who happen to be 25 years old. Where is the risk hes paid 1m more than Chiarot and 100k less than Alzner.

He was such an easy gamble for us we NEED SKILL there was absolutely no downside to make this move. Weber and Price are not getting younger I agree with building through the draft but at some point you need to consider the age of your core and avoid at all cost being a MIDDLING team forever.

Metro should be interesting.

5 teams made the playoffs last year (again). And the three teams who missed look improved - Rangers (Panarin/Trouba), Jersey (Subban/Gusev/Hughes), Flyers (Hayes/Niskanen).

I'm really not sure Gusev will make it big, he's not really a fast skater and lack experience on a smaller ice.
And he's not 25...just turn 27 years old.

Despite that, i still think he was worth a shot.
Not like we're doing anything with that money anyway, and we drafted enough the last 3 years….could let go of those picks easily.

But nope, Caporal ChestBras thinks it's better to do nothing, pray for prospect to pan out and start with a negative attitude that trades are hard and players are not available.

No one cares
MB is not fond of skilled players...let alone skilled players from Russia.

He is busy looking for another 6-7-8th Dman and another 4th liner...we currently have 27 guys signed, if you count Poehling and Suzuki. Why not hit 29-30 guys...lol

I am willing to bet my sportsbook cash that Romanov gets traded as well.

NJ being crazily overrated right now, they're not making the playoffs next year and will have to end up trading Hall at the deadline. they added a washed up simmonds, hughes isn't cracking 50 pts, and i'm willing to bet neither does Gusev. After that they don't have much depth. Subban is a great addition but let's see if he's properly recovered from last season. He looked slow as hell and he was never fast to begin with.

They made the PO two years ago but last they were too many injuries to be able to compete (Hall, Hischier, Bratt, Vatanen).

They basically have the same core they had back then but added top skills like Hughues and Subban to that core. So i wouldn't right them off that easily, but their goaltending issues will determine the rest

The fact NJ only signed him for 2 years tells you that even they aren’t convinced he’s the real deal just yet.

I guess that depends if you consider Dadonov elite. Devils and Rangers add a top dman and a great forward. Meanwhile the Habs added Chiarot and Cousins lol.

Personally, I would have added Subban, MoJo, and Dzingle or Nyquist. I would have to look more into Gusev to make a decision on him.

But I think MB's counting on some young guys (anyone from 26 and younger) to take steps forward - if not this year, then over the next few years. Accordingly he doesn't want to risk adding bug contracts that might not pan out. He was comfortable with aho and duchene, not Gusev and Subban. Trouba, Panarin, etc.. of course weren't options for us.

That's what I don't get.

The Devils, as of last year, certainly were not "one or two players away" from a cup. They had a worse season than we had, they didn't have that bright of a future ahead, and IMHO didn't have a core as young and as promising as ours. Still, their GM got out and signed Simmonds, Gusev, added Subban to the team, and drafted Jack Hughes 1st OV.

Not saying I'm a huge believer in Gusev, but it's certainly interesting to see that a GM like Shero is trying to actively improve his team. Meanwhile, we have fans like this who excuse anything the front office will do;

Why does it always have to be "one more year" in Montreal? Look at the Devils board. They are exstatic and can't wait the season to start. I personally couldn't give less of a crap. What did Bergevin give us to look forward to? Kinkaid? Chiarot? Cousins? Laval?

When the most exciting part of your team is watching the Laval Rocket, it's sad times.
