I am wondering what happened to Vegas in this series.

Coach turned into a pumpkin?
Beating Winnipeg was a fluke?
Caps are really that good?
One of the biggest things for me was while Vegas had a lot of really good players and forwards, they also lack a superstar forward, which teams like Washington, Winnipeg, TBL, Nashville, etc, (even the Devils with Hall) all have.

I mean, yeah Marchessault and Karlsson played like superstars this year, but I don't think really put them on the same level as Ovechkin, Laine, Stamkos, Kucherov, Taylor Hall or even Filip Forsberg as of right now.

So does Brian MacLellan now go out and overpay everybody to keep this team together? Including stupid contracts for guys like Beagle and even DSP? Lombardi gave terrible Dwight King a contract for too much after their second cup.

Now that I look it up, Dwight King did score 30 points in 77 games the year before he got that contract, so that's probably why he got it. He just sucked terribly after he got it.

He was also part of getting a brand new franchise competitive within 6 years of its inaugural season, back when the expansion process was much different and didn't exactly set teams up to succeed in quick fashion, and then only missing the playoffs 3 times in a 10 year span after that.
I definitely think he's in the HOF after this at some point.

Then again, it does take a while for coaches to get in and sometimes they don't get in at all. You would Lemaire might get in at some point as a head coach? Maybe they don't put him because he's already in as a player? I don't know if that means anything.

Caps got into Fleury's kitchen, made a delicious steak dinner, and then made him clean up the dishes.

The Jets didn't make his life difficult with screens and contact like Washington did.

It's been mentioned on numerous occasions but that Holtby save in the dying minutes of game 2 was the turning point

Nice to see a guy like Beagle who has gone through every level and truly worked his ass off. ECHL title, Calder Cup in the A, and then the best trophy in all of sports. Amazing.

That save will go down in history as an all time great save that literally changed a series.

I still think it's funny the Caps win the Cup a year after what was largely considered their last best hope ended in failure.

A couple of thoughts:

1. Washington figured how to beat fleury. Running majorly on your goalie in playoffs results in sufficient amount of material on video for Caps to learn how to beat you. Fleury is a human beign afterall.

2. Ovetskin. His team has melted earlier when up god knows how much and having a ridiculous roster. Remember Halak's THE (post)season? Caps walked into that mine. That said, when shit got real, (i.e. scf) Ovie got his team to clutch the thing. Caps never had stakes this high, and when they did, they smelled blood.

Combination of the fact that the Caps are a good team and Vegas players finally playing like the players they are instead of playing way way way WAY over their heads. They had virtually an entire team go on a Salvador 2012 playoff run.

More like Fleury turned into the player the Pens thought they were getting rid of.
I actually thought Fleury played worse (eye test only, not on paper) against the Sharks than he did against the Caps. He gave up more weaker goals against the Sharks than he did against Washington and the Washington series was getting even with that. I don't think there were many goals against Washington that he should have had, but I thought the game winner last night was one of them.

The problem with the Sharks series was that Jones gave up even more worse goals than Fleury, even though the Sharks outplayed the VGK and that was the difference in the series. Even in one of the games the Sharks won (the other was a shutout for Jones in a blowout win) they had to win in spite of Jones in OT, who allowed 2 brutal goals in regulation to keep them in it. Jones only allowed 2 goals in game 6, but both were at least stoppable goals. This is why Jones is the most overrated goaltender in the league and I'll street fight anybody who argues that he's top 10 anything. Craig Anderson was getting a little too overrated back in 2013, then the next year he was being really underrated after having a mediocre year the next season. He went from being called ''Top

Although the most overrated everything changes every year. A couple years ago the Habs were the most overrated team in hockey, now they're a joke and no one thinks they're any good. Bishop was the most overrated goaltender in the league a couple years ago, most don't really think he's that good anymore. Especially since he hasn't been to the playoffs the last two years. Murray was pretty overrated 1-2 years ago, but he kind of deserved it. He was off to the greatest start any goalie has had to his NHL career since maybe Roy or Marty. Mike Smith was way overrated back in 2012 or 2013. Craig Anderson was getting a little too overrated back in 2013, then the next year he was being really underrated after having a mediocre year the next season. He went from being called ''Top 3 goalie in the world'' to being called one of the worst in the league the next year.

That just proves that it doesn't matter what happens during the Regular Season just as long as you make the Postseason.

Once you're in, ANYTHING can happen.

This was a weird m, weird playoffs. I took a beating with my picks this year.

I expect things to normalize next year and not to go 7 for 15 in playoff series winner or whatever it was!

I went 4 for 8 in the first round.

2 for 4 in the second round

0 for 2 in the conference finals.

0 for 1 in the SCF.

Yikes! Make that 6 for 15!

Any year where an expansion team makes the SCF is probably a weird year.

Not to mention how Eller's goal in Game 3 of the first round changed the entire postseason. Fitting he got the game-winner last night too

A game of inches. That double OT winner in Columbus was as fluke as they come. So close to being 3-0 Jackets and likely lights out
