I know it doesnt mean much but its pretty remarkable how almost that entire Washington Team is compiled of former first rounders lol, if you go in order of the point leaders on the team :

Alexander Ovechkin - 1st round, 1st overall , 2004
Evgeny Kuznetsov - 1st round, 26th overall, 2010
Niklas Backstrom - 1st round , 4th overall, 2006
John Carlson - 1st round, 27th overall, 2008
T.J. Oshie - 1st round , 24th overall, 2005 -- St.Louis
Lars Eller - 1st round, 13th overall, 2o07 -- St.Louis
Tom Wilson - 1st round , 16th overall , 2012 (They also picked Filip Forsberg 11th overall that year LOL)
Dmitri Orlov - 2nd round, 55th overall, 2009
Matt Niskanen - 1st round , 28th overall, 2005 -- Dallas
Brett Connely - 1st round , 6th overall, 2010 -- Tampa
Jakub Vrana - 1st round , 13th overall, 2014
Andre Burakovski - 1st round, 23rd overall, 2013
Jay Beagle undrafted (6"3 4th line center..)
Devante Smith Pelley - 2nd round , 42nd overall, 2010 - anaheim
Brooks Orpik - 1st round, 18th overall (Lol), 2000 -- Pittsburgh

Braden Holtby round 4 #93 overall 2008

Last time i saw a team this comprised of first rounders was easily LA when they won the cup

You see it's posts like this and others that I love about this board and the many Hab fans who do a bit of research and posting the results so many of us can enjoy reading it. Building trough the draft and getting your 1st rounders right makes a big difference. Thanks for your time researching this and for the post. Much appreciated. :thumbu:

Considering half those 1st rounders are from other teams it shows how expectations for 1st rounders often have teams giving up good players because they didn't become exactly what they were projected to be.

He was bad.

The key question for me is how many players have actively improved under this management?

I can only think of Gallagher.

Byron, Petry, Weise, etc...

A few guys had career highs or were abandoned elsewhere to shine here. Not Subban/Eller playoff level shine but good stuff.

It would be odd if the TSN rumours are true and Subban is being shopped around, not just to Ottawa. If it's strictly an Ottawa/Nashville deal, why would cost-conscious Melnyk trade their franchise dman for another high-priced dman? Hopefully for PK this is all just chatter.

Do not want Subban back in the ECF. There are very few teams I don't absolutely hate. There's no way I want us to face him 4 times a year & no way I can cheer for him if he goes to Ottawa.

I hate Ottawa.

With that ridiculous Kane contract, they need all the cap space they can get.

I was impressed with Kane in San Jose. Wilson got him on the cheap (trade wise) and I think it's going to pay off real well for them.

At 26 years of age, I think we are going to see him pick up where he left off, and he should have several good seasons left to offer.
