Why would you rather buy him out if he can be dealt away save money to the Habs and possibly getting a pick back or whatever?

I honestly doubt that Kaberle can be dealt, even for a 7th.

Teams are desperate for D, but I don't think they are desperate for soft, overpaid and slow D-men.

Wasn't Gauthier hired somewhere. We can always try there. I'm sure Gauthier will give Kaberle a good referral.

I'd let him go for nothing.

No way...imo! (1-2 d injuries and we're screwed).

Bergevin should just tell him to be patient 'cause injuries happen (knock on wood against that). Weber had many many chances last year...couldn't play defense...unfortunately he has to wait a bit.
Or...tell Weber to be patient for a trade...be honest with him and tell him ''only if a team offers something fair'',etc...

He still has PP specialist potential, so...I would not trade him right now unless a team gives something fair back (Weber's value is low right now, so...I wouldn't expect too much but not that little either 'cause he does have offensive potential...just really has to work on his defense).

St-Denis(defense)>Weber(defense)

I'm pretty sure he is talking about letting Kaberle go for nothing, not Weber.

Oh! My mistake! Not sure if there are any takers for Kaberle...the waiting game could be a good one since the nhl season just started not long ago...teamds with many injuries to their dmen may get desperate and offer something for Kaberle...no?!

Sure, Kaberle has an expensive contract. Sure, he's at his lowest value in his career right now. Doesn't mean that teams won't believe they can't revive him after acquiring him. We've seen it many times where teams manage to wake up players just by changing their scenery. We've also seen the opposite. I don't believe it's impossible we can trade Kaberle. I do think it'll be difficult and improbable, yet possible. There are some teams that are probably desperate enough to make a move in order to acquire him.

Besides, there's always amnesty buyout for his contract. Which could give a fail-safe for interested teams. Imo, those who aren't desperate enough will wait until Kaberle's contract owner buys him out until they sign him.

I just had an interesting thought. With Pacioretty out we could use another forward, maybe we can swap Kaberle for a forward with a similar contract needing a new start? Worst case you buy him out in the summer.

If they REALLY wanted to move Kaberle they could send him AHL/Europe and save 900k on his 4.25 mil contract. Then buy him out in the summer.

Pacioretty won't be out for too long. Eller should be able to take up his spot until he returns. If we trade for a forward, it's for depth, or it's big package trade to really improve a position. If you do get a player to replace Pacthes, then you kind of also need to trade Eller. I don't see him scratched every game until somebody else gets injured.

I've heard some suggest that we trading Weber and Kaberle so we could sign Commodore cheap as a 7th physical and experienced D.

I think Kaberle is on a one way contract? Wouldn't that stop us from sending him out to AHL/Europe?

Ugh not Commodore.

As for Kaberle nothing stops the team from sending him to the dogs other then not saving much on cap space unlike in the past.

We can find some utility D man to sit in the 7th role. Maybe even St. Denis

Move him for a 3rd round pick and get back our investment.

Pacioretty is out a MINIMUM of 4 weeks, it could extend to 6, mid March. If Eller keeps struggling I would look at Sykora maybe.

If they were that interested in Commodore he would have had a real contract not a 25 game tryout.

Why would a one way prevent them from sending him anywhere? Do you think Gomez and Redden had two way deals?

Eller has played one game at a new position. That is jumping the gun unless you don't think it's worthwhile to give him a legitimate shot at playing LW.

It's not just about struggling, they expect offense from a line with Cole and Desharnais on it.
