The Flames need to be in both players. If they can get a guarantee of extension from either player, they should pay up.

An unextended EK did not bring back high end, young talent.

But Duchene, agreeing to an extension before a trade is completed, should bring back quality, cost controlled assets

I'm not sure it's going to work out with a Duchene trade the way you think.

This ****-show is gonna take more than a couple years to play out.

Unless they hit home-runs with Stone/Duchene being traded, this rebuild is in the 5+ year range.
Most, if not all, rebuilds are.

Edmonton
Toronto
Chicago
Vancouver

I think Duchene is the next guy to go. Both Duchene and Stone will 100% be gone by the TDL imo.

P.S. I feel bad for Sens fans, I thought the Oilers had it bad with Katz/Chia trading Hall/Barzal pick but Melnyk/team drama turned the Ottawa Senators from a team 1 goal away from the Cup finals to the worse team on paper without Karlsson/their own 1st pick with Jack Hughes there.

Anyways, here are all of the guys with some trade value and/or expiring deals we could potentially sell at or before the deadline:
- Stone (pretty good package)
- Duchene (good package)
- Dzingel (late 1st or a 2nd+3rd)
- Wideman (late 2nd)
- Ceci (late 1st or a 2nd+3rd)
- Anderson (3rd)
- Pyatt (5th)
- Paajarvi (5th)
- Smith (5th)
- Condon (5th)

There is no way the Sens are getting anything good for Stone, Duchene, or Dzingel. It is best to accept this now instead of being disappointed in the future. If all 3 are traded, I think the joint return is going to be 4-5 mediocre prospects, a 2nd round pick, and maybe some 3rds/4ths. I would be shocked if it was anything more than that.

Dornyk couldn't even get anything good for Karlsson or Hoffman. They traded their 1st rounder to turn Turris into Duchene 3 months before they decided to do a full rebuild. This management team is so inept there is absolute no hope of anything turning around until the team is sold.

The best case scenario right now is they do really well drafting in the next 3-5 years and the team becomes one of those fast exciting rising teams before the players start needing bridge contracts and they get shipped out for pennies on the dollar while Melnyk tries to convince the fanbase that it is time for another rebuild because he can't afford to ice a competitive roster (but he'll leave that last bit out). Then he'll try to blame the fans because they don't want to pay for his garbage product or he'll just do something embarrassing like hiring a private investigator to track down people saying mean things about him on Twitter.

Before they even think of it Melnyk needs to allow Dorion to deal with other Eastern conference teams. Otherwise they will be sold for less than they are worth.

Duchene to the Devils would make sense to me

Flames are in cap hell next year. Need to re-sign Tkatchuk, find a goalie or re-sign Smith, figure out what to do with Bennett (likely cap casualty moves him out) and do not have any significant cap hits coming off the books.

They would have to find a way to move Frolik and Stone. Frolik's contract was front loaded, so a team near the cap basement may have interest.

Bennett is only getting a raise if his play improves substantially.

The Sens are going to show everybody what an expansion team truly is once Duchene and Stone are gone not to mention Dizingl

I predict these trades along the lines of these.

I predict Duchene gets traded to a playoff team around the deadline for a first, second, B+ prospect and cap dump.

I'll just say suddenly Arizona is a playoff team and are looking to make a push.

---

Arizona:
Matt Duchene

Ottawa:
1st/2nd 2019 (depending on how far Arizona makes it, gets both picks if they make Conference Finals, 1st if clinch playoff spot, 2nd if miss)
Dylan Strome
Brendan Perlini
Alex Goligoski

---

Dallas:
Mark Stone
Zack Smith

Ottawa:
1st 2019
Conditional 1st 2020
Conditional 2nd 2020
Julius Honka
Ty Dellandrea

Conditionals based on extension. But I think there's no better place for Mark Stone at this point, with Seguin, Benn, Radulov, Klingberg, and soon Heiskanen, this would be too good for Dallas to miss.

---

I also see Boedker, Ceci, Tierney, Pageau, and Wideman to be traded. More along for draft picks and decent prospects.

Somewhere on earth in a hospital
Everyone dumping on Ottawa while they are down is a sad human trait I must say.
Keep in mind that Dorian unfortunately has a owner who likes to overtly run the show.
Also keep in mind that the Sens have to spend to the cap floor and they can't get rid of every contract above 3 M.
Also re Karlsson ... at least they didn't lose him for nothing as NYI did with Tavares. San Jose gets EK for one season and maybe only until the TD as there is no guarantee he signs long term there.
What the Sens need most if for Melnyk to sell, solidify the Lebreton Flats reality and build build build. They'll be fine.

bla bla about Dorion , hes terrible so is the owner sorry.

He's going to get a boatload of time this year. He had 8 points in 16 games before tearing his hamstring this year. It's a contract year. I think he'll put up 40 points this year. And will be a powerplay specialist. Someone will pay a 2nd for him, especially a contender which will be a late 2nd. I think he'll surprise many this year as will Wolanin.

40 points? for Chris Wideman?? A total of 30 D put up 40+ points last year....

I'll remember this post lol. Zach Werenski didn't even get 40 last year.

All their recent moves, Karllson included, is about saving money. It's probably why they didn't get Hertl. he makes too much money. Other GMs will know that now (Wilson and Rangers GM already knew) so expect lots of terrible trades value wise (but help them financially).

They HAVE to get a 1st rounder in 2019 from somewhere. If I was them, I’d burn it down and trade Duchene and Stone for the largest futures packages I could get. Stock the cupboard. It’ll be a rough few years, but they’ll be the beneficiaries in the end.

Supposedly the Isles were pursuing Duchene early in the off season, wouldn’t be surprised if Lou made it happen

Everything must go.

Teams should be calling Dorion on his flip-phone around the clock. I feel really bad for Boedker for getting traded there. Stone knew what he was getting himself into to
an extent. Hopefully some of these guys get out of there for their sake.

I feel so sorry for these Senators fans there ownership really messed up big time. They trade Brassard, Phaneuf, Thompson,Oduya, none bigger than Karlsson of course, they traded a good decent player in Nick Shore and now you have to think Ryan,Stone,Duchene,Smith and Pageau will be next.
