An unextended EK did not bring back high end, young talent.
But Duchene, agreeing to an extension before a trade is completed, should bring back quality, cost controlled assets
Most, if not all, rebuilds are. This ****-show is gonna take more than a couple years to play out.
Unless they hit home-runs with Stone/Duchene being traded, this rebuild is in the 5+ year range.
Actually no. The deadline market will be better no with Hoffman and EK off the market. This Dorion fool is ruining the trade market for Rangers who need to unload a bunch of precious and semi-precious assets by the deadline.
Anyways, here are all of the guys with some trade value and/or expiring deals we could potentially sell at or before the deadline:
- Stone (pretty good package)
- Duchene (good package)
- Dzingel (late 1st or a 2nd+3rd)
- Wideman (late 2nd)
- Ceci (late 1st or a 2nd+3rd)
- Anderson (3rd)
- Pyatt (5th)
- Paajarvi (5th)
- Smith (5th)
- Condon (5th)
Flames are in cap hell next year. Need to re-sign Tkatchuk, find a goalie or re-sign Smith, figure out what to do with Bennett (likely cap casualty moves him out) and do not have any significant cap hits coming off the books. The Flames need to be in both players. If they can get a guarantee of extension from either player, they should pay up.

Everyone dumping on Ottawa while they are down is a sad human trait I must say.
Keep in mind that Dorian unfortunately has a owner who likes to overtly run the show.
Also keep in mind that the Sens have to spend to the cap floor and they can't get rid of every contract above 3 M.
Also re Karlsson ... at least they didn't lose him for nothing as NYI did with Tavares. San Jose gets EK for one season and maybe only until the TD as there is no guarantee he signs long term there.
What the Sens need most if for Melnyk to sell, solidify the Lebreton Flats reality and build build build. They'll be fine.
He's going to get a boatload of time this year. He had 8 points in 16 games before tearing his hamstring this year. It's a contract year. I think he'll put up 40 points this year. And will be a powerplay specialist. Someone will pay a 2nd for him, especially a contender which will be a late 2nd. I think he'll surprise many this year as will Wolanin.
Just trade with Ottawa, Rangers will make out like bandits
Lou needs to do something hereSupposedly the Isles were pursuing Duchene early in the off season, wouldn’t be surprised if Lou made it happen
