Good deal for both. Ottawa gets a good enough player who should sign for cheap, and plays a style they'll need when Boro is gone. They have about a million picks in this draft, so this doesn't make much of a dent.

Florida again makes a slick shrewd move, getting a way better pick than Brown was worth.

Win-win.

I always liked Brown. Certainly won’t wow anyone, but he’s pretty responsibility and is aware of limits. He didn’t hit or fight as much as I would’ve liked, but I appreciated when he did.

was drafted in the 6th, just got a 4th for him. Upgrade I guess.

The move is logical:

Played for Smith
Cheap
Righthand shot defenseman
Size on the backend where Ottawa has no other options.
Facepuncher after losing Borowiecki and Sabourin
Youngish


It was just an overpay asset-wise. I suppose there were free options or ones that only cost a 6th, but my guess is that they cost 1.5M and Dorion didn't have the budget.
