    Sekera, Kassian, Koskinen, Ottawa's choice of a B prospect/pick

    for

    Smith, Ceci, Condon

    --

    Why the Oilers do it?

    - shores up their Top 4 and backup goalie
    - gets rid of Sekera's cap hit long term so the team doesn't have to worry about playing LTIR games

    Why the Sens do it?

    - Sekera's contract with be a cap filler and as long as he is injured and not in playing condition, it should be covered by insurance so Melnyk will not have to pay any actual money; given it's Sekera's second major lower body injury in the span of a year, he's very likely done
    - gets rid of Smith's and Condon's longer term contracts for Kassian's and Koskinen's shorter term deals
    - Ceci very likely not to be in future plans due to elevated cost of qualifying him and his performance not matching his salary
    - prospect/pick as sweetener

    --

    Realistic or not?

As if Sekera is going to waive his NMC to go to Ottawa. Also: This does nothing for Edmonton.

Ceci may not be great, but his play at least allowed Ottawa to greatly shelter Karlsson and Wideman on the right hand side. Now without Karlsson that sheltering will be in extremely high need. He may very well be the top minute guy in the NHL this year at a very tough to fill position.

Not a great player, but this is an easy no.

Yeah I doubt Sens do this (but then again based on what they’ve been doing who knows....)

Ceci’s a weird dman. He’s not good enough to be a 2nd pair or #4. He’s probably a bottom pair #5 or #6 dman but he’s way overpaid to be a bottom pairing guy. If I was the Sens (or any team) I probably wouldn’t qualify him at the end of this year and hope to sign him for much cheaper

First off no way Sekera waives his NMC for Ottawa, And secondly Sekera is probably done for the season any ways. Don't see this deal going down.

If there's one thing we've learned over the last few years, it's that Ottawa management is completely incapable of getting a decent return in a trade. So before responding in the usual manner on these forums about a trade's value, think to yourself, is this a good trade for Ottawa? If the answer is yes, then it's not realistic. Take out one or two key pieces until the deal heavily favors the other team involved. Then it's a much more realistic scenario and something worth discussing.

None of those Ottawa players are what the Oilers need.

Add up the dollars. If they are saving millions over the next few years Sens say yes.

This Avs fan prefers if the Sens keep Ceci and play him too much.

Then proceeds to trade Draisaitl to Vegas for the new and improved, leaner Griffin Reinhart.
