McKinley's Alexander Johnson could be first BPS player drafted by MLB in 51 years

McKinley's Alexander Johnson could be first BPS player drafted by MLB in 51 years

Dream and reality have intersected for the 6-foot-5, 235-pound McKinley senior pitcher this spring, and the exposure could result in the right-hander with lots of potential receiving a phone call during next month’s baseball draft.

It's hard to believe that baseball has declined so much at BPS. This kid looks older than a lot of the Sabres.

"“He’s exciting because he’s tall,” said one Brewers scout, who, for job security purposes, was unable to give his name. “He’s got long arms. He’s relatively young pitching-wise. He doesn’t have a lot of breaking balls on his arm. He’s young with potential. He’s hitting 91 (mph on the radar gun)"

How hard will it be for the Brewers to figure out who they sent to Buffalo, NY?

McKinley pitcher Alexander Johnson goes to Reds, ending BPS' MLB draft drought
McKinley High School pitcher Alexander Johnson became the first Buffalo Public Schools league (Cornell Cup) player to be taken in the Major League Baseball amateur draft in 46 years on Wednesday when he was picked by the Cincinnati Reds in the 36th round, No. 1074 overall.
There's 40 rounds in the MLB. If he's a 36th round steal the Reds won't be able to sign him. MLB has a weird system.

I'm surprised more people don't go to watch the Bisons. Whenever I see highlights on tv I see lots of empty seats. I have a feeling it will get worse now cause Bills training camp is on and that's all most seem to care about.

Just as I thought, all of Buffalo is focused on the Bills. A bunch of former Bisons are doing well for the Jays and no one is even talking about it. Bichette just set an MLB record of 9 consecutive games with a double. Cause it's not the Bills, its like it doesn't matter.

Wow that's amazing for a kids first game in AAA. The Jays might be good in a few seasons.

Is it a no hitter if no one in Buffalo cares. The Bisons are in a playoff race but it's all Bills all the time.

It wasn't Zeuch's first game in AAA.

It was a hell of a game to go to, though. It was especially impressive seeing him do that with so few strikeouts.

Patrick Beilein has resigned as NU coach for personal reasons.
Patrick Beilein resigns as Niagara University basketball coach
LEWISTON, N.Y. — Less than seven months after he was hired to what he called a "dream job" coaching Niagara University's men's basketball team, Patrick Beilein is stepping down. The Niagara County native made the surprise announcement in a statement Thursday morning, which came weeks before he was set to coach his first game with the Purple Eagles. Beilein's statement didn't give a reason for his resignation beyond "personal reasons." His Twitter account was also deleted as of Thursday morning. Niagara University is expected to release its own statement shortly. Beilein will be replaced on an interim basis by former Duke University star Greg Paulus, who was an assistant on the staff.

Bandits on brand, win a tight game 13-10 to open the season. Local boy Field scored in his debut for the Seals. Good stuff.

UB wins a bowl game for the first time in program history! :handclap:
The best part was when the game ended, and the players dumped the Gatorade jug on coach Leipold. Then the ref decided there was still 3 seconds left on the clock, and they had to run another play. So they ran the play, and the game ended again, and the players dumped ANOTHER Gatorade jug on the coach.
