That was a costly, embarrassing mistake by Zutroy.

That's good info about the data and makes sense...I read earlier something about radio waves or signals taking 11 minutes to reach Earth so I could imagine how long a color photo would take as it would be more data to send. A day or two? Three? Maybe Amazon Prime could get it back faster. For the scientists waiting to get started on analyzing photos, that would be a lot of standing around.

It's not the data transfer. All the good equipment is shielded/protected from dust/elements that were stirred up by landing. They are checking everything before deploying it. If the dust screws up some equipment, who's going to go and fix it? The BW camera was likely used for landing, so it's disposable for the rest of the mission.

Erecting a statue to honour someone in the deep dark past? Nah, they offended someone at some point in their life.
Changing a name of a sports team that no one even know where the original may have come from? Done
Having a one on one live/phone conversation with another human being? That is so 1990's.

And as well, per below, saying "Thank you " to someone after they do something nice for you? No way, don't want to offend them, and it's far too informal.

Congratulations human beings. You are now reaching the point where you are so self absorbed that the world has been reduced to a single solitary bubble of robots.
