Is that a result of playing hockey or older age?

Yeah mine is much much better now. It was really bad for the first three months or so and could still feel pain for over a year after it happened

going for massages and PT helped a lot

They both go hand and hand. I played lots of baseball growing up. Every time u throw, u are doing damage to shoulder. I think it just finally says "Ive had enough".

Don't want to scare you guys, but it gets a lot nastier as you get older and arthritis sets in.

Probably just scar tissue. My wife leaves the room when I'm doing my shoulder stretching as the grinding sound drives her crazy.

I had that pretty badly for the stupidest of reasons.

I used to bench-press like a mad-man, but neglected my back (specifically "Teres Major").
So my muscle started pulling my entire shoulder forward.

I'd get that "click" sound everytime I raised my arms.

I had to do a simple physio exercise. Just holding a heavy weight, with a straight lazy arm, and spinning it back and forth, letting the weight stretch the stabilizer muscles.

Now at 42, and years of doing pullups nearly daily, the nagging numbing pain is gone. I only hear the clicking when I do certain obscure exercises.

I live in NS and they have this treatment here called cupping. They put little cups on your back and draw a vacuum and close it off for 15 minutes. They say it brings the inflammation to the surface. You will notice you will have lots of circle bruises on you. I looked like Raggedy Ann the 1st time I did it

Unfortunately, you are correct. Im almost 52 and it has been down hill. I hate living in cold weather climates because it brings it out worse. If we are ever allowed in the States again, I would really like to spend February, MArch, and April anywhere South of Dixie. I love being in Nova Scotia the other months but I extremely hate winter

I’ve done cupping twice before, it works really good from my experiences.

look like kinda a mess until the cup marks go away

My little asian acupuncture doctor used to do that to me as well, right after the needles. Kind of weird, but whatever. The clicking is nothing to be worried about, you just need to keep working stuff around, but it does sound unnerving.

I have been getting calcium buildups in my shoulders for a dozen years or so. Good times. I have had times I couldn’t put a shirt on by myself. Man things go great after 40.

I hope this helps him get his career back or at least get to where he can live without severe pain. I thought back injuries were bad until I hurt my shoulder. They also take forever to heal
