Very sobering to hear that. Just hope they caught Oskars earlier.

I don't like to speculate when Oskar's was caught, but I'm hoping it was earlier than the Russian player given his battle was 4 months (If I read correctly). It will soon be 2 months since Oskar was diagnosed and they've shown him at games and even life outside of hockey. Showing him at games and in social media posts gives me hope his was caught far earlier than the Russian player.

Sobering story from the Reading newspaper this weekend.

Joyce Ortiz, who dreamed of becoming a Marine, passed away this week after her yearslong battle with cancer.
Joyce, 18, passed away at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Thursday after battling Ewing sarcoma since 2015.

She received a police escort back to Reading on Thursday night as police vehicles lined Penn Street as the procession crossed Second Street. More than two dozen on-duty and off-duty officers came out to salute Joyce in an impromptu tribute.
Her stepfather, Officer Ervin Gonzalez, said her family was overwhelmed by the display of support.
“They treated her like a queen or princess,” he said Friday.
As the motorcade reached the crest of the Penn Street bridge Thursday night, Joyce’s mom, Giselle Arman, heard the sirens and saw the lights from Penn Street.
She was surprised, humbled and thankful, Gonzalez said.
Mayor Eddie Moran and acting Police Chief Richard Tornielli made Joyce an honorary Reading police officer on Wednesday. Tornielli and police union president Chas Menges brought her badge to the hospital, number 285J — her stepfather’s number with a ‘J.’
Gonzalez said the gesture was unexpected. At that point, Joyce was still fighting for her life, he said.
He had taken her to Hershey on Saturday after her mother found her vomiting. They knew the cancer had progressed to her brain, he said, but she had been doing well. The turn for the worst was unexpected.

They are but lets get that negativity out of here. The treatment and evaluation that Oskar is getting is heads and shoulders above what other cases had. That matters a lot.
The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is a world class hospital that saved the life of a family member born two months premature in the early 70’s. Sometimes people don’t survive despite the best care. I believe Oskar will beat this, but don’t think that just because this young woman didn’t, that the care she received at the Hershey Med Center was lacking in any way at all.

Of course I’d love to see Oskar back in a Flyers uni but most of all I want to see him have a healthy good life. Best wishes for OL.

The two goals coincide, for him to have a healthy good life, the damage from the cancer is limited and it goes into complete remission - in which case he should be able to resume his hockey career like Herzlich did in the NFL.
