And sounds correct by accounts I’m aware of. There may have been peripheral players who could technically win a race on a speed skating track, but Shore and Morenz were top-class fast on a functional level. In Shore’s case there’s something to be said for the extra step of the guy with no regard for his own safety, or others’.

There is a difference between being the best Dman in the world in the 1950's and 70's vs the 20's and 30's. I think the reason(s) are rather obvious.

Whatever is publicly available from that time, I've seen. So I have some base line to compare it to.

The video is like 4ish minutes I think. I don't recall exactly.

It may seem like I'm coming after you on this. Truth be told, I think a lot of people see you as an authority on player evaluation around here. Myself included. But when it comes to players from this long ago, I think it's rather important that people reading your take on Shore for the first time, or existing members who may have forgotten, are reminded regularly just how much information you're actually basing this on, so that they may decide for themselves how seriously they should take it.

Would you be able to post some links to "whatever is publicly available"? You've posted the Shore clip before and I don't need you to do it again. But if you have clips of Seibert, Hitchman, Wentworth, Coulter, Clancy, Crawford and whoever else, that show them defending in a different, more intelligent way, that justifies what you're saying about Shore, then that would help at least a little. Of course, we still wouldn't know for sure whether these were just carefully selected "highlight reels" that show fast action and not the simple, routine plays that happen ten times more often, but it would be something to give your opinion about Shore at least a second leg to stand on.
