Edit: Thread continued from here.

The clock will start on Tuesday, September 29 at 13h EST. The draft can begin right away.

ONE PLAYER PER FRANCHISE (ALL-TIME) DRAFT !!!

Rules and Information:

- NO TRADING, but you can swap full sets of picks before your first pick is made.

- All-time, you can only draft 1 player from each franchise, 12 F, 6 D, 2 G + 1 Coach (doesn't count towards franchise count).

- A player will be judged on his ENTIRE CAREER not just the portion he played for his qualifying team.

- Players that played for multiple teams count for the team they spent their peak/prime years with, a player is only eligible for ONE franchise (see list of close-calls below).

- Players whose peak/primes occurred outside the NHL count for their country, and you can only have 1 player per country (i.e. if you draft Sergei Makarov he counts for Russia/USSR). Czech Rep. and Slovakia are one country because virtually every player that would be drafted would have played for CSSR.

- Franchises that moved all count as one (i.e. players who played for the Whalers count for the same franchise as players who played for the Hurricanes)

- Players whose peak/primes were with a pre-NHL team that no longer exists count for a pre-NHL franchise, this includes all PCHA, WCHL, NHA, etc. So all those dead pre-NHL teams are unified as one single franchise, simply called ''Pre-NHL''.

- The old Senators and new Senators count as the same franchise.

- The Montreal Maroons count as their own franchise, as does the NY Americans

- Clock structure as follow:

1st-2nd round: 12 hours
3rd-12th round: 8 hours
13th-21th round: 6 hours

1 hour reduction for a missed clock

Clock reduction:

Hawkey Town 18: -1 hour
scrappylilnobody: -1 hour
The Macho Man (now The Macho King): -1 hour

hmm, this was a hard one. i was down to two LHDs from the adams division in the 80s. from the buffalo sabres, i'm going with minnesota native...

AdventurousGranularAnkolewatusi-size_restricted.gif

phil hou mike ramsey, olympic gold medalist. like the other guy i was targeting, ramsey is big, a great open ice hitter, phenomenal shotblocker, and stay home defensive rock. must have been one of scotty bowman's favourite players because after drafting ramsey, he acquired him twice, in pittsburgh and then detroit.

NHLers voted Ramsey the NHL's best defensive d-man in 1990:

Pittsburgh Press: 21 January 1990 said:
Best defensive defenseman: M Ramsey (34), B McCrimmon (17), K Lowe (14), C Ludwig (13), R Bourque (8)

The Winterhawks select Turk Broda, a top-3 all-time Stanley Cup performing netminder. The 5-time champion was renowned for raising the level of his game when it mattered most.

After his 4th cup in five years;
I couldn't beat him," Maurice Richard said. "None of the Canadiens could."
"He always did play real well in the playoffs," recalled former Bruins center Milt Schmidt. "He was one of the best money players ever."

I"m glad you didn't.

That said, my backup plan was to burn a Habs pick (worst case scenario: Vezina... dang good worse case).

I floated many rounds with Broda and Benedict available, and gambled they would last. Eventually there was no one of Keon's caliber on Ottawa so I made the call to go with Benedict and to pick up Keon.

Yes, but can't add from teams you already picked from, even if you drop a player from that team.
Have to ask- has OPPF ever had an add-drop before?! If so, did anyone actually USE it?!?

In reality, there's a gigantic hole in the add-drop interpretation as cited above. If applied, forgoing the Montreal (and possibly Detroit) picks in all 21 rounds becomes a viable strategy, Then, someone who holds Keith Tkachuk or somebody like that could drop him and upgrade to Dickie Moore.

Allowing this to be part of our future would be just steaming hot garbage.

It is humanly impossible for a hockey fan to not laugh, cry and/or be jaw-dropping stunned while watching this video: (i dare you to try: it's that ****'n awesome!)

It's unfortunate that defensive highlight videos are hard to come by, as his stickhandling and skating skills were devoted to stopping the opposition more than scoring, though he was the scoring leader of Team Russia in the 2006 and 2014 Olympics. His four Lady Byngs and three Selkes (6-time finalist for each trophy) weren't enough imo. I have never drafted him before because I think him an ideal 3rd line pivot at any level of competition but he is usually drafted before most teams have their 2nd center! The OPPF is my chance. Oh, by the way, the Winterhawks select Pavel Datsyuk.

All due respect to Norm Ullman, Alex Delvecchio and Henrik Zetterberg,... Liam Neeson convinced me to go with Datsyuk.

Not that I'm aware of, but the interdiction I came up with solves this issue completely. You cannot add a player from a team you already drafted from.

Unless I misunderstood you.

Suppose I didn't express myself with as much clarity as was necessary...

1) Since it appears that we've never applied add-drops in OPPF before, I don't think now's the time to broadly permit them.*
2) I (for one) [and I'd like to think most of the participants here] drafted with the understanding that add-drops wouldn't be an option.
3) The OPPF pre-condition isn't that limiting- particularly with a dozen competitors. If someone finds himself in a situation where he feels he needs add-drops to round out his squad, he has no damn fool to blame but himself.
4) If allowed, some really dickish gamesmanship would be possible. There are at least two people (maybe three) not yet finished drafting who could pull some dickish gamesmanship before it's over. All I can do is appeal to their sense of honor to just not go there.

* I said broadly permit. I could see a scenario where we might to choose to narrowly allow some add-drops from an infrequent participant or two, just as a type of "mercy-rule" so that they're not left abjectly chanceless. This should very much be an exception, not a rule.

Practically, I doubt add/drop will be much useful to many GMs if they can't pick from teams they already used. All is left is scraps.

I don't mind either way.

Add/drops has never been a OPPF option and CLEARLY is a competitive advantage for some teams.

Don't change the rules once a game has begun.

Maybe announce it as an option next year. I certainly would value taking O6 picks early less. And goalies? Heck, yeah.

If you are SALIVATING over undrafteds, then let's have a OPPF-MLD. :)

I see my clock actually elapses in fifteen minutes. This is as close a flirtation with the deadline as I've had this campaign...

Full-season available Ken Dryden started roughly 70% of his team's games. Not-too-shabby... but certainly not Glenn Hall/Martin Brodeur workhorse-level. Back-up Goaltender cannot be an utter blow-off pick for us. Happily, we can arrange to add...
1) Four time Vezina-finalist (and once Vezina-winner),
2) Morphologically as close to Dryden as remains on-the-board,
3) Road-trip roommate for Numminen...

Not the ideal skillset for a 4th line center, but

1) I can actually draft him, unlike... almost anyone else
2) He did play a more defensive role as the often 3rd line center in the 1987 Canada Cup
3) I can still use him on the point of my 2nd PP unit, which is nice.
