From the Xman thread, thought it can make a good discussion.

The teams first 2 months are pretty brutal.

TOR/Pens/LA/Pens/DET/STL/OTT/CAL/BUF/Bos/Dal

Was/TB/NYI/NYR/BUF/LV/EDM/CAL/VAN/WASH/NJ/BUF/BOS/CAR

Thats 25 games from October 3rd to the end of November.

I bolded the games the team could/should win. and I think I am being genrous.

Last year the team started 1-6-1 and that essentially set the tone for the entire season. The habs first 8 games really only have 2 that look winnable, and even DET might/Ottawa aren't gurantees of anything.

I am looking at probably a 8-17 record at best IMO.

You forgot the season opener (which should be bolded :sarcasm:)

Bad teams beat good teams. All its gonna take is the habs to play with a gally-like effort and the Ws will rack up. Unfortunately, for optimist fans here, that ain't likely.

Can't look at it this way. Hockey has become less predictable over the years as the game became faster.
They will probably face some second rate goalie (since they are consider a bottom team)
They will get some team off guards in MTL and Price will probably change the outcome of 2-3 games.

The 4 first games are pretty tough but after it's not overwhelming since i personnally think teams like the NYR and NYI are not games Habs will automatically lose.

Tough to predict.
We are not going to lose every game to better teams either. Good teams lose all the time versus bottom dwellers.
But we should suck ass.

... It's not even that tough of a schedule in and of itself.
But this year's edition of the Habs is not that great on paper, so the matchups look bad.

True, but last year we started 1-6-1. Looking at the schedule, that can happen again.

And once you start out that bad you are in a giant hole.

Its a really tough first 25 games.

Last year the goalie was hot trash, thats what set the tone. Lets be real.

This year he’s in a completly different mind set.

This team is making the playoffs eyes closed, they still got some good talent and they got rid of the cancer.

Im still upset at the Subban trade but this year the team will do just fine.

Most of the players on the roster have something to prove and thats a good thing. I feel the chemistry will be good this year. They will play tight hockey and win by 1 or 2 goals margin.

Man mountain will return in mid November, but it will probably be too late.............we will be out of the race by then.

he's said to be out 5 to 6 months, so he went under the knife on 6-19 so 11-19 to 12-19 is when he's expected back. I saw on TSN where he said he won't rush back.

"I hope to return earlier, but if it's another four months, it's another four months," Weber said at the Canadiens' annual golf tournament at Laval-sur-le-Lac golf club Monday. "I've got to do what's right for myself long term. For me to come back too soon and get hurt again, that doesn't help anybody."

so we'll see as we get closer what the update is on when he's due back.

The way we're playing right now and if Kotka stays in the line up I think we could go somewhere between 13-11 to 15-9.

I'd prefer a losing record tough to get a high pick next year but I wouldn't complain if the team knew some sort of success.

We are going to be in a hole no matter what this year. Last year it was a bit surprising to some because there were many changes leading to uncertainty, and some people are always positive or prefer to ''wait and see''. But I mean, it wasn't very difficult to predict the Habs would suck when they moved all their PMDs away, and opted to start the year with Danault-Drouin-Plek as their centers.

This year should be no different.

I think they will finish the season better than at start. Getting Weber back and new coaches had more time to work with players. First 25 games...just a hunch but 10-12-3

I hope they start 0-9 and then decide to be a bit more prudent about the development of their young players.

Honestly, I can see us losing a game or two against Buffalo. We always seem to struggle against them.

For the west coast teams, I can see us losing all 4 against LV, EDM, CAL and VAN.

I do think we beat NYI though.

more like till 2019 and not december

I hope you are right but it's a typical 4-5 month recovery. 4-5 months takes it to mid Nov to mid Dec and the Habs said mid December as a conservative projection. Pretty sure he starts skating by the end of November and if no set backs, he will be back before 2019.

The whole season is likely going to be very tough. It will take some minor or even major miracles for the team to be competing for a playoff spot, a number of players will have to come out of nowhere and produce far above their career averages.
