We're slightly past the mid-way point of the season. How are your teams faring in general? How's your best team doing (and who is on it's roster)? Who have been the biggest surprises and disappointments (for your teams specifically or in general)? What would you have done differently in the draft if you could?

Here's my review of my team:

I'm really happy with my team I think its my favourite team I've ever had in the 7 years I've been doing fantasy hockey pools, I play every season with only one team so this is my only team. Its H2H league 10 teams we count Players: G A PTS PIM PPP HITS SOG +/- Goalies: W SV% GAA SO

I'm in first place with a record of 130-54-20 280 points, 24 points ahead of the guy in second. The roster:

Joe Thornton - C
Brad Richards - C, LW
James van Riemsdyk - LW
James Neal - LW, RW
Corey Perry - RW
Patrick Kane - C, RW
Erik Karlsson - D
Drew Doughty - D
Torey Krug - D
Cam Fowler - D

Bench
Ryan Johansen C, RW
Jaden Schwartz C, LW
T.J. Oshie C, RW
Blake Wheeler RW
Scott Hartnell LW
IR Valtteri Filppula C, LW

Roberto Luongo - G
Ben Bishop - G
Anton Khudobin - G

BIGGEST SURPRISES: I knew JVR was going to have a good season so I'm not surprised there, I didn't think Fowler was going to be that good this season and by the start of the season I had no idea who Krug was. I'm really surprised by how quickly Johansen has adjusted into the NHL and how well he is playing this season I'm so happy I picked him up off waivers same with Schwartz, Oshie, Filppula, and Khudobin. I defiantly struck gold when grabbing them off waivers. But my biggest steal in the waiver wire by far has been Ben Bishop! Probably my MVP of my team also its between Bishop, P.Kane, C.Perry, and Karlsson.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENTS!: I would say no one to be honest with you if I had to choose probably B.Richards I thought he was going to have a year like he did in 2009-2010. I also wish I drafted Jeff Carter, I was so close of getting him, also disappointed I drafted Cam Ward so early.

Here are my draft results

1. (8) Patrick Kane (Chi - C,RW)
2. (13) Corey Perry (Anh - RW)
3. (28) Erik Karlsson (Ott - D)
4. (33) James Neal (Pit - LW,RW)
5. (48) Roberto Luongo (Van - G)
6. (53) Joe Thornton (SJ - C)
7. (68) Cam Ward (Car - G)
8. (73) Drew Doughty (LA - D)
9. (88) James van Riemsdyk (Tor - LW)
10. (93) Blake Wheeler (Wpg - RW)
11. (108) Brad Richards (NYR - C,LW)
12. (113) Brad Marchand (Bos - LW)
13. (128) Mike Richards (LA - C,LW)
14. (133) Scott Hartnell (Phi - LW)
15. (148) James Reimer (Tor - G)
16. (153) Ryan Callahan (NYR - RW)
17. (168) Dan Hamhuis (Van - D)
18. (173) Cam Fowler (Anh - D)

The guy took Jeff Carter in the 8th round 75th overall. After this draft I really liked the 8th overall pick but I remember I was hoping to nab Kessel with the pick but he was chosen right before I took P.Kane, like I said I love how my team turned out and its one of my favorite and one of the best I've had. I only have one lose in H2H this season and it was in week one and then in week 4 I had a tie and the rest of the weeks its been wins against the guy I been going against week after week

Your team looks especially action-packed solid. A lot of moves in FA it looks like. I'm not surprised you're first ;)

This was my first draft in this format and in Yahoo and also only my 2nd fantasy year. Going into this draft as a Yahoo rookie, I wasn’t definite about the scoring format or the position locks either.

2nd Place
106-73-37

Claude Giroux - C, RW

Patrick Marleau - C, LW

Jeff Carter - C, LW, RW

Alexander Semin - LW, RW

Jarome Iginla - RW

James Neal - LW, RW

Ryan Suter - D

Alex Pietrangelo - D

Oliver Ekman-Larsson - D

Matt Niskanen - D

Jonathan Quick - G

Kari Lehtonen - G

Jonathan Bernier - G

Bench:

Max Pacioretty - LW

Wayne Simmonds - RW

James Wisniewski - D

IR Marian Gaborik - RW

TedenbysFrontTeeth
1. (7) Claude Giroux (Phi - C,RW)
2. (14) Jonathan Quick (LA - G)
3. (27) James Neal (Pit - LW,RW)
4. (34) Ryan Suter (Min - D)
5. (47) Alex Pietrangelo (StL - D)
6. (54) Marian Gaborik (Cls - RW)
7. (67) Patrick Marleau (SJ - C,LW)
8. (74) Kari Lehtonen (Dal - G)
9. (87) Jeff Carter (LA - C,LW,RW)
10. (94) Jonathan Huberdeau (Fla - C,LW)
11. (107) Oliver Ekman-Larsson (Pho - D)
12. (114) Jarome Iginla (Bos - RW)
13. (127) Jack Johnson (Cls - D)
14. (134) Alex Galchenyuk (Mon - C,LW)
15. (147) Sam Gagner (Edm - C,RW)
16. (154) Devan Dubnyk (Nsh - G)

Biggest Surprise: Patrick Marleau and the SJS. Helped me stay afloat in the beginning of the season when Neal and Gaborik were both injured and Giroux was in that slump. I also owned Raanta for some time while Quick was down and he did awesome. Niskanen’s consistent +/- has been a great boon for my team and OEL’s game-winning goals have been nice. Bernier taking the starting role for the Maple Leafs has been crucial.

Biggest Disappointment: Quick has been very underwhelming. He’s singlehandedly ruined my goalie stats in some weeks. Was way better off with Raanta when he played. Also Gaborik being on IR the majority of the season, and of course the draftees that didn’t pan out and I ended up dropping.

I am very satisfied with this team considering my confusion in the beginning. They started off really slow and I was in 9th place for the first few weeks. They’ve really picked up since and getting guys back from IR and some healthy free agent additions has put me on a roll.

H2H league, doing the best I've ever done... this is the league's 5th year, I've been in for 4 years as an expansion team so I didn't have the luxury of getting Crosby/Malkin/Stamkos caliber players, but I couldn't be happier with my team...drafted young since it's a keeper league and it was the best strategy. Current record is 150-107-28, 2nd in the league and a few games behind the 1st place team. I've beaten the 1st place team in all three matchups we've had this season too (thinly veiled brag).

Most of my roster was FA pickups this season, because if I had kept the guys I drafted this year, I probably wouldn't have as much success.

Current roster:
C Jonathan Toews
C Antoine Vermette
C David Backes
C/LW Nazem Kadri
C/LW/RW Jeff Carter
C/LW/RW Jussi Jokinen
C/RW Nathan MacKinnon
LW Chris Kunitz
RW Brent Burns
RW Patrick Kane
D PK Subban
D Ryan McDonagh
D Victor Hedman
D Alexander Edler
D Paul Martin
IR Logan Couture

G Carey Price
G Jonathan Bernier
G Cory Schneider

and the team I had after the draft was...

3rd (keeper): Carey Price
11th (keeper): PK Subban
19th (keeper): Tyler Seguin (traded for Backes + pick, good for both sides imo)
27th (keeper): Jonathan Toews
35th (keeper): Patrick Kane
43rd (keeper): Matt Duchene (traded for Couture, meh deal)
51st (keeper): Nazem Kadri
-----------------------------------
59th: Chris Kunitz
70th: Joe Thornton
75th: Niklas Kronwall
86th: Jonathan Bernier
91st: Jeff Carter
102nd: Blake Wheeler
107th: Slava Voynov
118th: Troy Brouwer
123rd: Justin Schultz
134th: Alexander Edler
139th: Jonathan Huberdeau

Some could say that dropping players like Kronwall wasn't the best move, but in a keeper league, I think about continuing to build to be one of the better teams for a while (higher you finish, higher you draft) and I've seen teams be on top and absolutely collapse now. I think Kronwall was replaced by Hedman, who's going to be a mainstay for years. I dropped Wheeler in the midst of his early season slump, which probably wasn't the best move, but it didn't seem to set me back much at all.

Looking back, coming in as an expansion team, I have no idea how I had the opportunity to build my team around the likes of Toews, Kane, Subban and Price from the start. Now I've added the likes of Hedman, MacKinnon, Couture, Bernier, etc...now the tough part is deciding who to keep since we're only allowed to keep 7.

Obviously, I'd be a bad ass real life GM :sarcasm:

Best fantasy team I've ever managed, in any sport. At this stage it'd be a huge, massive disappointment if my team doesn't win it all, mortgaged a bit of future (2014 first round pick, after our three keepers) to get to this point. Only moderate weakness is defense, the Letang stroke was a huge blow, but I think the forwards and goalies are good enough to make up for the loss.

Best move: pickups of Kuemper and T. Johnson, using them both for a month then moving them for Kopitar, I didn't need Kuemper, and Johnson will likely fall back to earth when Stamkos is back.

Worst move: dropping Okposo in early December. He had a moderate funk and I needed someone playing on a Sunday to win a matchup. Two months later and Okposo is among the thirty best fantasy players in the league...whoops!

As of right now I'm in 5th out of 10, less than 20 points to get into top 3.

My forwards are tearing it up right now and have been relatively consistent performing in the top 3 most weeks.

My troubles all year have been my goal tending. I'm hoping that Miller gets traded (Minnesota Preferably).. would pick him up.

My league is a H2H 8 player keeper league this was the first year for me. With the salary cap it is a pretty deep league so those cheap players help.

stats are as follows G, A +-, Hits and blocks (together) Pims, STP, SOG Gw+shoot out goals, Wins, GAA, SO.

My draft is as follows:

F Toews, Jonathan - CHI
F Eberle, Jordan - EDM
G Holtby, Braden - WAS
D Pietrangelo, Alex - STL
G Fasth, Viktor - ANA
F Lupul, Joffrey - TOR
F Ryan, Bobby - OTT
F Seguin, Tyler - DAL
D Goligoski, Alex - DAL
D Faulk, Justin - CAR
F Brunner, Damien - NJ
D Orpik, Brooks - PIT
F Parenteau, P.A. - COL

F Ladd, Andrew - WPG
F Bennett, Beau - PIT
D Hedman, Victor - TB
F Grabovski, Mikhail - WAS
F Lapierre, Maxim -
F Forsberg, Filip
D Larsen, Philip
F Grigorenko, Mikhail

As you can see I've done a lot of work to get where I am, had a tough start but I'm improving.

5. (38) Anze Kopitar (LA - C)
6. (43) Evander Kane (Wpg - LW)

Now:
Not So Quick

Jeff Skinner (Car - C,LW,RW)
Andrew Ladd (Wpg - LW)
Ryan Callahan (NYR - RW)
David Clarkson (Tor - RW)
P.K. Subban (Mon - D)

Brent Burns (SJ - RW,D)
Nazem Kadri (Tor - C)
Eric Staal (Car - C)
Mike Smith (Pho - G)
Cory Schneider (NJ - G)
Brad Richards (NYR - C,LW)
Marian Hossa (Chi - RW)
Anze Kopitar (LA - C)
Evander Kane (Wpg - LW)
Pavel Datsyuk (Det - C,LW)
Jaroslav Halak (StL - G)

Top 4 is very competitive. No chance at not making playoffs.
H2H, 8 FW/D categories, 4 Goalie categories so I ususally don't like the 3 goalie setup. I had the most success near the start when I was running 2 goalies. Anyway, hoping to switch off Smith or Halak, and not too impressed with Boyle.

This is a 12 team Roto keeper league. I traded many guys in the first year (last year) for draft picks for this year so had a crazy good draft. Increases to 8 keepers next year,

Keepers:

Seguin
Hall
Tavares
Rask
Schneider
Price

Draft:

1. (1) Duchene
2. (5) Mackinnon
3. (6) RNH
4. (7) Hossa
5. (10) Schultz
6. (19) Yandle
7. (30) Boyle
8. (34) ROR
9. (49) Burns
10. (54) Kadri
11. (55) M Richards
12. (82) Stastny
13. (133) Gallagher
14. (144) Nikitan
15. (178) Khudabin
16. (184) Conacher

In the first 12 picks I'm satisfied with all except Schultz. One of the best drafts I've ever had in either hockey or baseball. I'm typically average at drafting, great at trading.

My current team looks like this:

C - Zetterberg
C - RNH
LW - Hall
LW - CMac
RW - Mackinnon
RW - Seguin
D - Burns
D - Schultz
D - Faulk
D - Macdonald
Util - Duchene
Util - Mackinnon
B - Yakupov
B - Morris
B - Richards
B - Tatar
B - Legwand

G - Rask
G - Schneider
G - Price
B - Talbot

My trades:

Hossa and a 14th rounder for a 2014 first (currently would be 10th overall)

Kadri and a 13th rounder for a 2014 first (currently would be second overall)

Martin Jones and a 5th for a 2nd

ROR, Boyle and a 6th for Cmac and a 3rd

Reilly Smith for Yakupov

Yandle and a 7th for a 3rd

Stastny and a 2nd for Zetterberg and a 14th

Kuemper and an 8th for a 6th

Currently in first by 7 points, 3rd place is 16 points behind me. My draft picks (by round) for next year is 1, 1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14. We do reverse order of standings for the draft and one of the firsts would be second overall, as they currently stand :yo:

I'll post my other team later (not as dominating).
